Ours is too.
People are bitching online (I can see them on FB) about how now the office expects them to either A) use PTO or B) just have an unpaid day. The office even is allowing for extended hours for the rest of the week to help make up for some of the lost time if you want. What do these people expect? The office to give them 8hrs PAID time due to the snow? I don't get it.

It seems easy for someone who didn't have to try to go to work today to say it's stupid that others would complain. Just sayin.

Some of us don't have PTO days saved up to use yet and although it isn't the company's fault it snowed like hell it isn't our fault either. I can see having to make it up being fair because a lot of companies can't afford to close the office but people are still going to complain in general because coming in sucks and so does making it up. I sucked it up and drove in to work because I'm not wasting my weekend.

So weighted average of my yard and a couple of neighbors I'd say in my area we got about 8 inches of snow total. Maybe 9. I did have a 2.5 foot drift outside my side door, damn wind.... And interestingly my wifes car only has about an inch or 2 of snow of it and in bare spots like a 1/4inch of ice.

EDIT: Guess I was right on, weather channel is saying my town got 8 inches of snow

Our office policy is that if you don't want to come in due to the weather, you can take a PTO day or make the time up. I think that is a very fair policy.

In this case, however, our office has officially been closed so therefore, they're giving us paid time off for today and yesterday.

Pretty much the same for ours although we did not close today. I was actually allowed to work from home! Yay! Heh - I logged in to check the keycard access to the building and it is only showing about 25 people who entered today out of a staff of 400+

Glad I didn't waste my time driving in

Nah. That's just our side of the WI/IL border. STAY OFF OUR LAWN!

Be careful, I hear they have some pretty well armored walkers.

Yeah - I have about a 3.5' drift along my deck. I may need to go shovel that

It switched to normal rain last night after a few hours of freezing rain, and the wind picked up, which just busted all the ice off the wires and branches. Busted a few branches off too but not much damage there. The wind has really picked up and it is snowing some, but we didn't have a lot to begin with, so not much drifting.

Only issue is the roads are still a half-frozen mess. And my truck is still in an icehouse.

I called for backup. I shoveled enough for the mailman to get through to the mailbox and a walking path on the sidewalk. Otherwise I'm not killing my back on this shit. My dad will arrive in an hour or two with the snowblower. :awe:

Woke up this morning to -22f without windchill. Thankfully it is going to be up to 30f on Friday. A 50 degree turnaround in 2 days.

I did get paid day off today. However, I can understand people claiming that. Companies that have offices in midwest have to take weather into consideration, for things like this: there will be a day per year when it will be impossible to work. And it is par of cost of doing business here. It is cheaper for them to let us go one day per year than pay us 30% more in calif.

sure. but who should eat the cost? the company? why you didn't come in. as you said its not there fault. you? well yeah you didn't work.

seems easy enough to me. if they are allowing you to make it up or use a PTO then good.

Judging by my deck we got about four inches last night which isn't bad at all. My wife also got a call last night that she didn't have to go to work today but decided that wasn't information I needed.

Took a few pics, sorry for the size (5MP for those who want to see full size).

I had to climb out a window to get outside and clear our back door so it could open... our dog had to go potty, so we had to pass him through the window before I could clear the door. Our internet is down, thank you free Android tethering! We're going to have a nice family day, we can't go anywhere or do anything. The snow is impassable here due to the drifts.

Edit - Instead of making everyone load the pics, here is the link to the folder:

About 6" overnight. About half what they were predicting. I was out with the snowblower at 6:00 AM in the dark because it's really important for my wife to get into work, if you know what I mean.

Still snowing here and we're still under a Winter Weather Advisory until noon but I don't expect we're going to get enough additional to be concerned about.

That's a good point.. schools take it into consideration because they know it will happen and businesses in this area should too BUT I can see where it's just as fair to push it onto the employees because you know if you live here, you have to either make it to work somehow or make it up which is how it is. I think I need to move ASAP

A real shot out my back door...

http://v6stqa.bay.livefilestore.com...1okUBbrLn00ShWUUep2p1lcUE/IMG_5261.JPG?psid=1

It's about belly button deep on a 6' guy.

I opened the rear door of our garage this morning to put the trash out in the container only to be confronted by a chest high drift. The dog and I both looked at each other, got a gleam in our eyes and then ran as hard as we could directly into it. She was thrilled, me not so much once I realized I only had on a t-shirt and pajama pants.

I want to thank all the good people that took all the snow out of the storm. Our streets are pretty clean

just finished shoveling the driveway... ugh... tiny little hamstring / lower back tweak, nothing major :awe:

i'm willing to wager all the people on facepage that think we didn't get enough and are "disappointed with mother nature" didn't have to shovel. i had to do that in 3 little shifts, took me about an hour... snow with a layer of ice on it is a bitch. my biggest drifts were at the end of my driveway... 2 feet or so... pretty good dumping around here.

i pushed my neighbour lady's car out of the snow drift for her with the help of another neighbour.... came back inside, was having my coffee and as i sat back down on the couch for a second i watched her drive her car directly back into the same drift and get stuck again... facepalm lol

still lightly snowing here. it can stop any time now lolz

Finally done shoveling/snow blowing. The driveway area between my house and my neighbors was HELL! 2 to 3 foot drifts. Kept nearly stalling the snowblower. Then the back door/garage door area was one solid 3 or 4 foot drift that was 30 feet long and about 10 feet wide.

Fun.

Is it March yet?

Oh still lightly snowing too.
