I went because of a fever I had for about 2 weeks off and on and I was pretty bad dehydrated. 3 hour wait. Finally got in. They gave me fluids, the doctor saw me for about 1.5 seconds to hand me a prescription.
$1300 for the ER visit. Medicine was $45. Did not help. Went another week or so before I finally shook the bug off.

The above completely illustrates why ER visits are expensive and time consuming. Neither case should have be in the ER in the first place. ER= EMERGENCY, neither was an emergency. You both should have seen either a family practitioner, an internist or gone to a doc-in-a-box. If you don't have a regular doc, get one.

Emergency Departments do not need to be clogged up with non emergencies

I would guess somewhere between $1,000 to $2,000. Offer to pay 70% of the total and work out a payment arrangement with the hospital, like $15 per month.

And get yourself some damn insurance. It's absolutely irresponsible to not have any.

I got a throat infection while I was in Como, Italy in May. I went to the emergency room...waited maybe an hour and saw a doctor who knew very English. After try to describe my problem and that I needed anti-biotics...he wrote me a prescription and told me I was good to go...didn't pay a dime. I then walked down the street to the local pharmacy and paid 10 euros for the antibiotics. So total ER visit cost with medication: 10 Euros....not bad.

I'm not a huge fan of socialized medicine...but I have to say that was an awfully nice experience...especially with no one I talked to really knowing any English...yet them being extremely accommodating.

I went for the exact same reason (cut). I believe it was just under $1,000.

It's great when you go to another country and make their tax payers foot the bill. Gives you a little feeling of what it's like to be an illegal alien in the US.

I went to the hospital after I fell down a flight of stairs with a 19inch monitor in hand. sprained my ankle pretty bad, though being the tough guy, I walked to my car and drove myself to the ER and got fixed up. Company insurance picked up the tab.
