I'll wait for 1 of 2 things.
1. Either only HD-DVD or BluRay exists.
2. There are dual players for about $200.

What announcement are you talking about?
EDIT: nevermind, saw the either topic. If Blockbuster is really stocking only Blu-Ray, it definately gives BR another advantage over HD-DVD. In itself it doesn't mean that Blu-Ray will win, but when combined with many of the other advantages Blu-Ray has (such as a much bigger instal base), this could really mean the end for HD-DVD.
No, by itself that DOES mean Blu-Ray is going to win, unless everyone decides to spend 4x the money to buy movies, or subscribes to Netflix.

doubt it. MicroSUCKS (I've been itching to say that for so long  its so funny when fanboys do it on slashdot.org) will quietly pull its HD add-on off the market.

I don't really know much about the differences between hd dvd and blu-ray... but I want blu-ray to win simply because HD DVD is annoying to say.

I think Microsoft made the right choice by not betting the farm on either format. If Blu-Ray really wins, which it currently seems like it might, Sony's bet might have paid off, but it was still a bet.
Sony is obviously in a different position than MS of course... Sony's future may depend on the success of Blu-Ray, and they needed the PS3 as a "trojan horse" to get BR into millions of homes.

Depends on the player. The PS3, the only player with large numbers, just added upconverting.
