Need I go on?

- Superior capacity will make movies look/sound better - not an issue now as both blu ray and HD DVD output great picture/sound, but as more feature are crammed on the disk, HD DVD will be at a disadvantage.

- PS3 will win the day (while being outsold 2:1 by 360) - After the release of the PS3 in Nov 06, it only took 2 months for the PS3 to erase the disk sales lead that HD DVD built in 7 months. Since then, the PS3 and blu ray has enoyed a 2:1 lead in disk sales. Too bad we will never know how many of those 360 sales were to replace ones with the red ring of death issue that were out of warranty...(at least my launch day core 360 is still alive and kickin)...

- Superior features will win (no internet, BD-J sucks, poor player performance) - please compare the load times it takes for a PS3 to load a movie against the load times for a Toshiba HD DVD player...last time I checked, my PS3's wireless connection works just fine.

- More studios will win (~310 movies for HD-DVD, 350 for BD, despite a huge catalog diff)
- More DRM will entice people to release (Despite 2 weeks fox still hasn't put solid release dates) - Fox has announced a slew of releases for Europe and Australia. (maybe you heard of movies like Indepedence Day, Predator, Robocop, Day After Tomorrow and Commando). US Release dates are expected shortly...when Fox opens the flood gates, what does Universal have to counter with? Outside of the Bourne movies, pretty much nothing).

- Blockbuster will win, despite no profitability, falling sales, and a B&M model that sucks - the media had a field day with this one, so now the general public has the perception that blu ray is winning by a signficant margin. I know the HD DVD supporters continue to refute the PR damage the announcement has caused, but nothing can be done about that.

- Losing $2Bn in a year due to PS3 is nothing! - how much a Microsoft lost on the 360 Hardware? everyone knows that revenue is generated from software sales.

- Discs will have more content (No extra content for j00, BD 300 has nothing, HD-DVD 300 has everything) because they have more size. If you want to base your arguement on one movie, go right ahead.

- People think low-price = desperation, which is why HD-DVD is selling 50% monthly growth. At 50k/mo and a realistic 25% attachment for PS3, that means it's outselling PS3 by 28k units, easily outselling the BD stand-alones. Yet another attempt to confuse the masses with the numbers that are twisted to favor HD DVD. HD DVD will sustain that 50% rate which happened just after they announced a temporary $100 reduction in early June. In order to combat dismal disk sales and possibly due to the PR hit they took from Blockbuster, Toshiba decided a few days ago to make this $100 reduction permanent. After Toshiba lowered their 2007 sales projects from 1.8M players to 1.0M, they are desparate to even meet this number...They have only sold 200K (which is a very generous estimate) players from Jan 07 to Jun 07. Not sure how they expect to sell 800K in the next 6 months.

- People are confused by the name, leading to poor adoption and ill-will. What kind of subjective arguement are you reaching for here??? In any case, I wonder why many people 'accidentally' ordered HD DVD versions of Planet Earth from Amazon thinking it would play on their regular DVD player. look at the reviews to read this.

So after all that bickering, I would love to hear your explanation of why blu ray sells twice as many disks as HD DVD? I would guess that this is an important number that the studios analyze to gauge which format is performing better...

I don't particularly care about Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, but this constantly repeated statement is false. Xbox 360 is profitable now. It'll take a lot longer for the PS3 to sell for a profit, especially if they have to drop the price to stay competitive. The original Xbox was never profitable, which is why MS stopped selling it immediately after the 360 was released. They weren't able to reduce manufacturing costs, because they didn't own the IP. Nintendo consoles are always sold for a profit from the get-go.

The video game industry as a whole does not use the Gillette business model.
