paragraph "On almost all fronts, the i7-4770K is the preferred chip over anything Sandy Bridge-E, if not by virtue of the single threaded speed it is due to the price difference. Sandy Bridge-E is still there if you need the raw CPU horsepower for other things."
How can you have an article about gaming CPUs, and not test Crysis 3? Not only is it the best looking game out right now, but it's also the most system intensive; practically next gen in fact..
So I call shenans on that one..
On a personal note, I struggled long and hard with the decision to go for either Haswell or a 3930K. In the end, I decided with the latter and I haven't regretted it since.
My 3930K does 4.4ghz with a measly 1.285v and barely breaks 60c when playing the CPU intensive Welcome to the Jungle level in Crysis 3. Haswell may be faster per clock, but it runs much hotter.
Also, multithreaded game engines are the future. Look at Crysis 3 for an indication, and the upcoming Battlefield 4 on Frostbite 3 engine (Dragon Age 3 and Mass Effect 4 as well) and the plethora of Unreal Engine 4 games to come..
