The sniper mission in Pripyat in COD4 was one of the best parts of the game. Avoiding soldiers and BTRs (personnel carrier vehicles) combing through the field was a cool suspenful experience. I wish they provided Russian-English subtitles during this mission. I speak Russian so I could understand soldiers talking about you while I was hiding under the trucks. Those conversations made sense. It is nice to have a game where they followed all the rules, including small details like soldiers' dialogs. Some voice-overs were done by native Russian speaking guys, most of them, however, with a thick English accent by the American team actors.

Like a cherry on the pie, the moment when you have to take out a bad guy with a 50-cal sniper rifle from a distance of about 1 km was the best part.

Those ghillie missions fucking rocked.

Forgot to mention a little frustrating part at the end: a bunch of soldiers with dogs will attack you and your buddy. I played on hardened and died about 20-25 times before I finished the level. I had to take a few breaks to calm myself down. You will have to find a good camping spot to avoid being bitten in the ass by dogs or killed by enemies. I will let you figure that one out by yourself (I suffered, so should you) ))

What I did was once I sniped the soldiers roping in from the helicopters, I dropped the sniper rifle and grabbed an AK. Then I ran all the way to the right where you can hide behind fence/building. I sniped some more with the AK and killed any soldiers and dogs who would come for me coming around the building, it was so easy that way, even at veteran difficulty.

I don't get it. I'm looking around, going from cover to cover but yet the f-ing other team sees me and kills me in 1 burst all the f-ing time. i don't even get a chance. the only way i can possibly get a kill is to camp and you can't do that because of the f-ing radar.

Hey pontifex - I think I bought some stuff from you loooong time ago

Don't feel pissed off. I felt the same way. After playing CS:S for years, this game is a challenge for me to get used to as well. The whole awareness thing is out of the window. I get knifed all the time. I wish I could increase the field of vision (FOV) more to see more. I have no problems killing people _who_ I see, but I can't hear/feel them behind me. In CS:S it was hard to sneak behine and knife me. Here it is a different story.

The radar gives away a lot about enemies on the map unless they have radar jammer perk or use a silinced weapon. A camper doesn't last long, since once he gets a kill, next time the guy respawns, he nailes/nades the bastard )). Also once you shoot, I can see a tracer from far away giving away your location.

I like playing on the objective oriented maps. There is more team play and you don't end up having a bunch of guys behind you knifing the living hell out of you.

I started getting headaches playing this game. Anybody else? I need to try to go through the tweak guide and play around with video options.

I think I'd be more satisfied with a CTF game type. I just can't really seem to get into the groove with these other types. i'd still probably suck but i'd be a bit more comfortable.

i should have SoF tomorrow so maybe that will be more my play style (and it has CTF!) but it may play a lot like CoD4 (i hope its different though).

Have you tried the UAV jammer along with a silenced weapon, seems to work well for me, this combo should keep you off the radar.

but then you lose the other good perks. plus i absolutely suck with iron sights.

True, one of the trade-offs I guess. I've also had more trouble keeping my bearings compared to CS:S but I think it's just a matter of knowing the maps better. I think this will get better with time.

i definitely advise people playing MP to try smaller servers like 6v6 or 10v10 max, these maps are too hectic with 32 man servers to play all the time.

it really is a shame they dont have squads like the BF series when you pub with your friends it is the best way to play, and really increases teamwork.

such a stupid oversight.

Those were badass to the core. I can't remember the last time I was so blown away by a game. The fact that you have to carry your buddy out is just amazing. I love the cinematic quality to the game, but at the same time I feel that there's very little replay value in the single player missions.

The dogs scare the hell out of me. I'd much rather fight against 50 soldiers than two dogs in that game. I've died more times from dogs than people. When I hear barking I drop EVERYTHING and frantically look around for the dog.

I could not agree more. It is nearly impossible to play in a 32 man server, even 18-24 sometime gets too hectic, makes me want to quit playing at times. And how in earth did they not think of making squads like BF. It sometimes feels like your playing alone without any team mates.

Installed COD tonight on both my computers, easily a 20 + minute experience on both. ave no idea why it was so slow but painfull to watch it was.

I just finished the game tonight.....phew. The ending was pretty intense... anyone have a pistol?!?! seriously? freakin' awesome.

The rap song during the credits was kind of funny... and the airplane level at the end was *awesome*.

My favorite weapon by far was probably the modded M4A1, you could do close-combat, sniping, just about everything- although the shotgun was a close second.

Did you guys install the PunkBuster software that came with the game to play MP?

I installed it but am wondering if I should uninstall it after reading their EULA.

Just finished my first run through lastnight, wow, seriously underestimated how good this would be. Amazing game with lots of variety and fairly tough in some spots.

****SPOILER*****

They didn't explain at all how Zblahblah lived after you sniped him at Chernobyl, or at least I missed that part. All I know is, that guy's chest exploded after I lit him up.

Been playing MP a bit too, lots of fun.

I think you just blew his arm off. I hit him square in the chest too and he fell down but ran away leaving his arm on the around. That is the reason he is missing it at the end.

Makes sense, thanks.

I didn't see him get up after I shot him, I was already running for the hills.

i really hate some of the ironsights in cod4, and that you cannot have a laser sight and a silencer by default without modding the game and thus needing to find, if possible, popular servers with the mod you prefer.

good product, but the various cons (to me) bring cod4 down somewhat.

multiplayer is generally smooth on a 1.8ghz xp2500 and nvidia geforce 6600gt

so its completely doable, unless the x700 is worse than the 6600gt?

Depends on the resolution and detail settings. I guarantee you won't be playing 1680x1050 with everything maxed on that setup.

One of the few games I have played all the way through in the past couple of years... AWESOME! It seemed to run pretty well on my 8600gt but I will probably be picking it up on 360 for multiplayer.

The best matches I've played are on 8 vs 8 servers, with the 'hardcore' settings- HUD disabled, FF on and the weapons boosted. One or two rounds from almost any weapon is all it takes to bring down a guy. Otherwise, on the normal servers, the weapons are a bit too weak- half a mag from an AK to take down a tango seems to be a bit excessive.

But COD4 MP is way too addictive!

I guess Activision doesn't care about cd key usage. My friend has COD4 installed on 2 comps, 1 for his bro, and they can play online at the same time.

15 hours in and only at Captain (Level 31).

I know I have been playing too much because I randomly hear the clinking of grenades for about two hours after I am done playing.
