I love Peter Pan, it tastes the best. Of course I don't know that I've eaten any brand that I didn't like. As for being hesitant to buy it again, I think it'd be possibly safer than the others, as they're going to be making sure something like that doesn't happen again (I don't know if you noticed but they were off the shelves for a very long time, which I would imagine probably was not good for business).
While it wouldn't surprise me that Wal-Mart had them make it, they do not taste the same. The Wal-Mart here actually pulled pretty much every brand of peanut butter off the shelf for probably a good week or two, then finally put a little bit of a couple of brands (I think one was Jif) back on. Now its all back. I couldn't believe how long it took before Peter Pan was back on the shelves though.
On the scare, what it sounded like to me is that there were a few people that had somehow not built up much of an immunity to salmonella, and so they got sick from eating it (and they're probably people who don't eat much food that would have salmonella in it, so they got hit hard), while most people who ate it were fine (it seemed like everyone I know who talked about it said they had one of the recalled jars in their house, half eaten and said they've been fine the whole time). Of course I'm not expert on salmonella, but anymore thats what it seems like, when there's thousands of infected products and only a few people get sick, although it could be that just a few of the products actually got infected.
Its the same peanut butter walmart sells.
Learned that from the recall.
Both peter pan and walmart brand had the same lot numbers.
