Here's a tip my friend told me:
he takes a small amount- 15 mg of adderall in the morning.
If I'd never taken meds, I would have never learned HOW to think in an undistracted way. But when I took the meds, I paid really close attention to myself and my brain, so that I could try to 'recreate' that state of being later on.
After awhile it becomes second nature, but early on you really have to force yourself to focus and stay on target and not get distracted
? I think that is an interesting point. He looks at his brains and sees how it is working, then try to recapture that state later on.
Some other tips:
Find people who care about you who know how you are when you are distrated. Try to rely on them for encouragment.
ADHD CAN be helped and treated- when I hear about other ADHD'er's stories it tends to help me out a lot.
The book Driven To Distration
Driven To Distration was really cool. It helped to hear other people's stories.
Basically, it is helping your mind focus- and it is different for everybody.
I know a friend of mine who just uses lists and they go through the list.
I know other people who take small breaks and walk around then come back.
Personally, I use my cell phone to program reminders/alarms for myself. It is so great to have an alarm go off 30 min before I'm supposed to call someone.
I hope that helps.
One last tip [and believe me, I'm right there with you- I haven't made art in at least a year and I see myself as an artist. I ahve cavases, paint, and books just screaming for me to use them.]
Here it is:
Don't do this by yourself.
I kept telling myself all I would need to do is just concentrate more and things will work out. Haven't you been trying to try harder all your life? Give up and try different methods.
Hope it goes well.
