agreed. In college, he just looked like an athlete that could easily out-athlete everyone on the field. That's all I thought of him. His first two years in the league definitely surprised me, but I think he's now stabilized at his norm. I hope he doesn't fall into Kaepernick territory--great tools, but zero brains--but it might be heading that way.
Teams really wanted to test him against the blitz and man coverage, and that's usually ended up with Lamar on top.
But if teams play zone and try to keep him in front of them, they can contain Lamar....assuming that have enough talent to play that strategy. Bad teams do not, so the Ravens can always steamroll a few teams with their current running strategy even without further progression from Lamar.
Lamar is a better passer than Kaepernick. Marksmanship-wise, he's damn good. But he falls into relying on his crutches than taking a chance on explosive plays to his WRs. That's going to his TEs and running for a first.
Josh Allen has surpassed Lamar easy now.
