uh...they way they played the 2nd half tonight is nowhere close to how bad they have played historically...

The Browns left it all on the field tonight and overall played well IMO.

Obviously a win would have been better but Cleveland fans can be proud and whoever they eventually face in the playoffs should be worried.

Left it all on the field against a very mediocre Baltimore team.

Proud to be mediocre.

Progress, I suppose, from pure suck in Dawg Pound land. They have graduated to the level of the Cowboys mediocre.

Choke.

The Browns should have won. Lamar had a terrible night and still they won.

Mayfield had a good night and still lost....cursed?

browns won't make it to the superbowl in my lifetime

If they can beef up the D-line and Mayfield calms down just a little bit more it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to me to see them make it in the next few years.

Right now Cleveland is a young, inexperienced and incomplete team but that will change. That offense is extremely scary when firing on all cylinders.

I turned on the game at half time. Turned it off toward the end of the 3rd quarter because I though the game was over (Ravens by 2TD). Really surprised at how close it was when I checked the scores later. Still trying to decide if the offenses are that good or if it was just terrible defense.

Lost one of my fantasy leagues on that 55 yard field goal at end by tucker. We give 5 pts for 50+ yard field goals which cost me the playoff win.

agreed. In college, he just looked like an athlete that could easily out-athlete everyone on the field. That's all I thought of him. His first two years in the league definitely surprised me, but I think he's now stabilized at his norm. I hope he doesn't fall into Kaepernick territory--great tools, but zero brains--but it might be heading that way.
I wanted to chime in before MNF, but held off. I think comparing Lamar Jax to Kaep is unfair. Lamar won the MVP award in his age-23 season. We'll see how his careers develops, as obviously he'll need to improve his pocket-passing and playoffs results. OTOH, Kaep was and is overrated IMHO. His numbers really aren't special and nothing to brag about if you subtract the two playoffs games when he destroyed the Packers.

LOL you have a ridiculous definition of terrible. He didn't pass for much yardage, but statistically his passer rating was 115 while his ESPN QBR was a near-perfect 99.5. The Ravens don't win the game without Lamar.

I never thought Kaepernick was very good or really even NFL material. Far as I'm concerned that Superbowl appearance was a fluke.

Jackson is FAR more talented although I still have doubts about him being successful when he (inevitably) loses that "first step" acceleration.

IMO he's definitely going to have to shift to a pass-focused attack. It's not really about losing the raw speed; a sprinter can maintain that for a decade (see Usain Bolt). The big problem is that rushing backs take a ton of punishment and are always just one bad tackle away from a season-ending injury. The shelf-life of a run-first gimmick QB or really any RB is fairly short (on average).

I won't go so far as to say Kaepernick was not NFL material, but his entire body of work isn't anything to brag about. Like I said, much of the Kaep street cred was due to him destroying my Packers twice in the playoffs. Kaep is a legend in his own mind. To suggest Lamar is possibly Kaep 2.0 is unfair to the reigning MVP winner.

No question about that key difference for a sprinter ... they don't get body-slammed by many NFL linebackers! (something I doubt I would walk away from even once!)

Until last night, I thought the defenses had somewhat figured out how to stop Jackson's run first attack, but last night it seemed he was unstoppable. So we will see in the playoffs (if they get in) how they do. He did miss a couple of open receivers though. I still think Mahomes is in a class by himself though. Just fantastic arm strength and accuracy, and decent running ability when necessary.

As far as Jackson goes, hopefully as he gets older he can transition more from the run heavy attack to a more balanced run/pass level.

It's Cleveland. It's as if they just smoke weed and play impaired all the time on defense.

Baltimore still has a bunch of piledriver big boys on the O-line built and primed for the "thug" level of football that is consistently there in the AFC North, so any weak sauce D-line will not be able to stop their run blocking regardless of gameplanning.

It's just that when a competent D-line and linebacking corps comes around, which is beyond high probability in the playoffs, the run can be contained and Lamar has to shred Ds that are likely playing zone to keep everything in front of them.

I find it amusing that the only people I see making a comparison to Kaep with Jackson are the people saying they shouldn't be compared. Also lots of the usual dumb shit takes (when I saw that the biggest speculation of the whole NFL season is if Lamar took a shit, it really reminded me of AT's football takes). Kaep was a middling NFL caliber QB. I find it amusing how many are trashing Kaep while ignoring he was putting up "good" Alex Smith numbers, and I'd guess a bunch of you same ones would say Smith is an above average NFL QB.

Even more weird is that if you had two QBs and one had big numbers but no playoff success, and the other put up big games in the playoffs you'd be falling over yourselves to say how the latter was better, yet you're arguing the total opposite and even saying that the playoff numbers mean less and shouldn't count (because that makes sense, somehow?).

I would say Alex Smith has been a more successful QB than Kaepernick however neither one of them has been all that good. Smith however would be a solid choice as a backup for most NFL teams while all Kaepernick would be in that role is a distraction.

And "taking a shit" is sort of like a cramp!

I think Kaepernick's new "career" is more easy to make millions with, and with far less pain and homework involved.

Smith can process the game beyond one read and usually keep the ball safe from opposing hands. It's just that he often compresses the field with the throws he usually makes. He's the epitome of "game manager" and the title actually fits him. Just like Fitzpatrick is a gunslinger.

Kaepernick was a beta test version QB for Roman's offense and I would not expect him to plug-and-play seamlessly on many teams even without the baggage. He burnt that lone potential bridge down though by going after Mr. Raven Ray Lewis. (And Ray obviously was able to bend the legal system to his will and avoid the "consequences" his peers have a victim complex about).

It was clear that Lamar got his "release" once he came back in.
