if i were to buy a 2nd monitor from ebay, is the warranty still good? or would i need to have the ebay seller return it for me, etc?

After 30 days be prepared to receive a refurb and NOT a brand new LCD if yours breaks for some reason.

Several years ago, when I bought a laptop from them, the screen had several dead pixels. They sent a tech out who replaced the screen, all at no cost. Not sure if things have gotten better or worse, but I certainly had no complaints.

Dont buy a dell. I recently got a job at a computer repair store. I have been there for about a week and already have had 6 or 7 people say they will never buy a dell again. Dell did a good job with customer support years ago. They built up a solid reputation but no they use cheap parts and have foreign support like every other company out there. If you care about warenties and suport then buy at a store where you can take it back and return or get an extended warrenty. Dell would take weeks to fix if something goes wrong.

We currently have 3 LCDs, 2 towers, and one laptop...all from Dell. Never had a problem with one of them.

And if you include the various laptops, LCDs, towers, other Dell products that I have sold on FS/T and ebay...I never had a problem with those either..

I broke my dell axim by dropping it down concrete steps, I tell them that its doesn't turn on and they swap it with a new looking refurb for me for free, took about 3 days all together. *I did not mention about the drop.

So you lied to them, took advantage of them, and ruined it for the rest of us who are honest and might actually need to take advantage of a warranty? Great job.

We're talking about monitors here, not computers. But I'll go ahead and address your points anyways.
I have been there for about a week and already have had 6 or 7 people say they will never buy a dell again.
That's because there are more Dells out there than just about any other brand and many of the people who buy them are clueless (especially those who bring their computers to "computer repair stores") and blame problems caused by their ignorance on the manufacturer.
Dell did a good job with customer support years ago.

I thinkthe bolded part of that statement speaks for itself, but I will add that Dell has plenty of NA support reps.
If you care about warenties and suport then buy at a store where you can take it back and return or get an extended warrenty.
Or, you could take that extra money you would spend on an extended warranty and upgrade your service plan at Dell.
Dell would take weeks to fix if something goes wrong.
Totally dependent on the plan purchased...but I doubt in the average repair/return would EVER take "weeks" to resolve. Of course, you hear of the occasional problems with service where some CSR fvcks stuff up or UPS loses your package, etc, but those are by no means the standard and happen with every company.

Seriously, I feel like the #1 Dell fanboy around here lately, but the comments some people have about them are so patently ridiculous, they need to be shot down.

OP, we have hundreds of Dell LCDs in use. I've only had to replace one once and it was there the next day. Put the busted one in the new one's box and shipped it back free.
I don't know how warranty transfer would work on accessories, I would call Dell and ask, and get them to email or fax you a copy of their policy in writing.

I can think of many reasons why I wouldn't want to buy a Dell, but that doesn't apply to their LCDs. If I have to buy an LCD, it's going to be a Dell. My second choice would be Viewsonic, if I were somehow unable to buy a Dell.

Oh, and I have no idea on warranties on monitors bought via eBay, I only buy monitors directly from Dell.

Dell warranties are great. Even if you think your computer or monitor is out-of-warranty, there is probably some other warranty that is still valid.

I didn't lie, they didn't ask me if I dropped it.
They asked me to do hard reset soft reset over the phone and when all things failed, they next day a replacement with a prepaid box for me to send my broken one back.

I would recommend Dell to anyone who isn't a techie, bad with computers, or buying a laptop

I had a 9 cell dell laptop battery that used to be able to hold 4-5 hrs charge, but after 3 months it held only 2 hrs charge. I called dell and told them my situation. They shipped me a new 9 cell battery with OVERNIGHT shipping. I just had to ship the battery back to them in a few weeks with a prepaid shipping box that came with the new battery. Note: this issue was not related to the battery recall. I only had the default 1 year warranty too.

It's true that they go overseas for SOME of their customer service, but they guy I talked to was definitely White American.

Anyway, I'd recommend them.

I was not saying there is anything wrong with dell monitors. If you trust that you can buy one and it will not break that is great and I agree. My points were about support. Dell not having stores or anything very much limits support to over the phone and email. They have also been having worse support over the past year or so. My point is that if you are looking for a good warrenty I recomend going to a trusted store that you can go into and talk to people face to face if you have a problem. Most people don't have a problem with dell support because they have never dealt with any other PC company support. Granted that most suck I have dealt with all kinds of PC companies and there support. I have gotten the fastest support with dell. However the quality of the support was by far the worst with dell. I had to file several complaints with the BBB before they would even listen to my complaints. HP on the other hand just honored the windows vista bonus pack for me. Part of the rules say that HP doesn't have to and are technically not supposed to. I called them and they are going to send me the stuff. It took 2 weeks to get a response but the quality of the response was good. The customer support person did all there research before calling me and was able to quickly answer any question. If you are looking for a good product go dell. if you are looking for good support and warrenties go somewhere else. I suggest newegg.
