I am sure you are correct Mem, thank you. I sometimes tire of people trying to argue facts just so to make the other person look wrong, but it's time to let it go.

We are all correct that's why it's a forum .
I think we all agree it's far from final,it only gets better down the road once we start seeing RC builds appearing.
Microsoft can do a lot in six months or so.

I do hope Win8 users get it free since that would be the icing on the cake,I'll settle for a cheap price however like Win8 was on release.

Yes, I think that would be a fair move on their part.

Something I did not like in Win10 is the start button because it's full of tiles. With Win8 you can get away with it because the start button programs don't have that. Maybe MS should make an application named "tiles" to be used from the people who like them.

Another thing I don't like in both Win8 and Win10 is the login screen. Is there a way around that?

You mean auto-login? Its a bit of a security risk but you can configure auto-login I believe.

Winkey + R, control userpasswords2

Disable "require a password"
click default account
enter password and save.

Do you sign in with an email address? Mine goes straight to the desktop, but I chose to use a plain login name with no password.

How is the login process?
I see you said plain login name with no password, and/or email address.
I hope that I wont have to sign up for a Hotmail/Outlook acct. just to use Win10 now.

Yes, I sign in with my email. I could not made this work in both Win8 and 10. Should I make a new user account and then disable password login?

Argue facts? Like you're using a OS that is in development and may see many things change? OK then...

What kind of security risk?

I created a new user account and boot into desktop now, thanks.

Insecure as in, all someone need do is log in and they can see everything from your files, to your saved passwords.

Still liking it.. Gone is the black cmd screen for Safe mode, last known good configuration, etc.. Now it's on it's own Windows startup screen with the usual selections and a "Repair" that actually works.
I purposely loaded it on an SSD that fails SMART, yet I use the machine daily. Windows has had to repair itself a few times so far, and every time a reboot provides me with a working "repaired" pc. Microsoft is recording the crashes I'm sure, and I especially like that..

People can say what they want about MS stealing ideas.. That's nothing new..
Anybody remember "Desk Mate" by Tandy?.. Then came Windows..

Windows 10 is a robust OS that incorporates more features, uses less resources, and out performs previous versions of Windows, and it's free. A year from now you'll have to pay for it.

I dunno, it feels nicer to use. Kinda like that feel when using GnomeBuntu for the first time

You don't need any email account whatsoever to log in to either 8.1 or 10 preview. If you are connected to the internet, the setup will prompt you to log in but you can easily avoid it by choosing to create a new account and then choose to create a local account. If not connected, you are prompted for a local account from that same point in the install.

I don't like the Win10 start menu as it lists all the apps at the top even when you eliminate all the tiles. If they were to make an option to hide the apps or even to move them into one folder in the menu, that would be a big improvement. I could uninstall most all the apps and reduce the problem... but I still might occasionally be tempted to play with the native apps to see what they do. So far, the weather app and pc settings are the only things I would need to remain.

Give that menu more user customization please, Microsoft.

You can right click and uninstall the apps you don't like/need. It works for most of them but not all. It does make that long list at the top more tolerable though. If you ever have second thoughts about an app you uninstalled you can always go back to the app store and install it again.

I played with it a bit, I like the looks of the command line improvements and ability to stuff windows into corners a lot. I wasn't able to figure out how to get directx on it, would one of the guys who was benchmarking mind telling me how they did it?

Huh. Okay. Not sure what was going on then, it was pestering me for a d3d dll when I tried to run a game. Might just need to install something that uses directx on it to get that sorted out.

What game? I remember there was a stealth indie game a while ago that for some reason relied on a old controller DLL being present...

World of Tanks. It was installed in a different windows installation, which might have done it. I was pretty sure I'd done something similar before and it had worked, though.

I ran Win 10 again last night without a problem. Oncee I figured out how to enable the SLI. I'm running it on a 3770k @4.5Ghz, 16G ddr3-1866, 2 GTX670 FTWs in SLI. I had a spare 120g Samsung 830 ssd so I use that ssd and disconnect the Intel 520-120gb/Samsung 500gb hdd which runs Win 8.1.

So far Aida64 installs well, Steam runs OK on it and I'm getting used to the start button.
