If it is anything like Windows 8, no. You can have a local account, but sign into the marketplace separately.

Ah, so the Microsoft Account setup just makes it easier to do all of that connected stuff by signing you in automatically vs. having to manually do it within each program?

I've got an interesting issue. I use Emco's Remote Installer program to help manage all of my PCs. It's kind of nice (and there's a free version) as I can setup a group (of PCs), toss the installer on the network, and tell that group to install the software. That allows me to quickly distribute an upgrade to SiliconDust's tuner software or Plex's Home Theater software. So, why am I bringing up this software in a Windows 10 thread? Well, I just can't get it to work! :$

The software requires you have access to an administrative account on each PC. If you just use the same username and password on each machine, it's pretty simple to do. The problem is that I "migrated" to a Microsoft Account for the PC, and now I can't use my normal local account for authentication anymore. What in the world do I provide as proper credentials for remote access when you use a Microsoft Account? Using an '@' symbol gets denoted as a domain qualifier, so I can't just put my e-mail address and password in there.

Seems like the software might need to be updated, I can login to my desktop fine using my MS account email with remote desktop. As a workaround, can't you just make a local administrator user and set that as the account to do your installs? Are you sure it isn't a firewall setting?

Alternatively you could look into doing what you want using powershell.

Right. I guess there are some possible other benefits to doing so as well such as utilizing the OneDrive feature directly, resetting a lost password from the web, having your profile cloud-based so your stuff is available on any Windows 8.1 system you sign into, etc. Nothing was very compelling to me at the time to do that. I prefer staying a local account and having more direct control over what is signed in and what goes where.

What I like about my live account is it is the same as my Xbox live account so all my Xbox achievements, friends, followers etc are synced to my PC along with my PC settings and contacts.

I like that all my settings and preferences transfer between computers, and that stuff like OneDrive is easily accessible from modern-era Microsoft software, which makes it very easy to get at files from my phone or on other machines when necessary.

I actually sync with OneDrive to my MBP.

Yeah, there's some cost for the convenience, but whatever... there are aspects of life where I fight to keep my privacy or my rights, but in other areas, the convenience gained is worth it imho. Google/Android has helped make things so easy for me on the go. Besides, what corporations like Google and Microsoft have on me is nothing worse than what is already in some government database somewhere (part of which is now, apparently, in the hands of the Chinese... thanks government!).

Well said. I'm enjoying the one drive and photo sync, shared settings and cortana reminders. Makes me want a winders fon, which I assume was the goal. Too tied to google though.

Yep, Daniel_K had support on the launch day.
My Audigy 2 worked better on Windows 10 than X-Fi XtremeGamer. The existing X-Fi driver is buggy on windows 10.
It's just the Windows 8.1 drivers, but the version of Creative's utilities he packs works. You could easily get away with the current Creative Win8.1 installer if not for the fact that the Audio Console and some of the other utilities block themselves on Win10.

I've been using Daniel_K's driver pack with my Audigy 2 ZS since Vista came out and Creative went full retard on their drivers and totally broke everything at that point. I guess they fixed them later but whatever he did had always worked fine so I kept with it.

I'm still using my Audigy 2 ZS as it still seems a bit better than the onboard Realtek ALC889, though I could be wrong I guess. I actually use both though. Onboard is for my mic as there is still an issue with the mic in on the Audigy with 64 bit OS and I have my speakers plugged into it (just 2.1 right now), while I have my 5.1 surround headphones plugged into the Audigy for when I game.

I'd forgotten about Daniel's drivers to get things working again in vista because I used them as well. Last I heard he went to work for creative since they obviously couldn't write the necessary drivers for the cards.

Don't think he works at Creative since he's still releasing 3rd party Drivers in the forums only and not in the official driver section....

Unless this is recent news that Creative finally hired him?

Well I'm glad that he's still active in the support community helping people with their creative products. I'm still using 3rd party drivers myself with my asus xonar d2x because asus can't be bothered with them and uni does a fantastic job of it.

I've am liking it for the most part. I did have some initial hiccups. Mainly with the conversion of the homegroup I had with windows 8.1 on the same machine I switched to 10.

I also had some wireless driver issues that I had to get fixed because my dual band wireless adapter was no longer recognized the 5Ghz band from my router.

Other than those two it's been smooth for the most part. It actually does the video streaming a whole lot better to my sony blu ray players. Many times the the streaming service in 7, 8 and 8.1 would "lock" up and various devices on the network wouldn't see them until I restarted the machine. This happened with all my machines using those OS's. Haven't had that happen yet with 10 now.

Other than that it has been mostly like using 8.1 which to me was mostly like using 7 with the classic shell app installed so I had a start menu.

I use RDP almost every day. My Win8.1 host was updated to Win10. It would sometimes hang for a while on the initial screen after I connect. Not sure if that happened today or not.

I tried to connect today and it got hung on a welcome screen with the looping dots just frozen (I had entered my Microsoft Account credentials in the Win7 client before attempting to connect). I was super busy and had to ignore it, so I didn't try to figure it out until later in the afternoon. I had already gone home for lunch and logged-in locally. Tried again at work and it seemed fine (but I didn't attempt to use it right away after connecting and can't say it it still hangs for a while).

I must be missing something. Usually I have to get an ISO first and then a utility to turn my USB drive into a bootable media.

I still dont know where to get the clean windows 10 to load onto the usb. I upgraded and am running.

Also this is an older PC, can I still use uefi?
