Speaking of that, since I haven't found a concrete answer from Google, should all installs be using UEFI now if the motherboard supports it?

Yes. You'll get faster boots from UEFI and can enable the secure bootloader. Make sure that you've got a GPT hard drive first, and fully disable legacy BIOS mode. (I think your graphics card also needs to support UEFI? I know my 980 had a newer BIOS version with UEFI support.)

In order to install in uefi mode you must set your installation device to uefi mode in the bios before attempting to install the os.

To clarify: my BIOS isn't set to force UEFI, and in Windows I'm showing as booting UEFI mode (type "msinfo32" in the run command, look for BIOS mode.)

I have secure boot off, but I do have UEFI. The only things I did to get there: formatted the SSD as GPT, and I booted my USB key that had the windows installer (back for Windows 8.1) as a UEFI device. Those two things were enough to make me go into UEFI mode. I guess I should turn the secure bootloader on.

Yep, that's all you need to do. Secure Bootloader is an option that's totally up to you. It's not at all necessary for a home desktop.

Technically there is a BIOS update for my board that converts it to UEFI, but it also was never moved on from beta either. I opted to not bother with it, just sounded like way too much risk for not much benefit.

Yes. As long as you install Win10 first and then Linux second, Grub will boot you into either OS, no problem.

That's one way of going about it. You can use a Linux live CD/USB stick to fix it as well, which I'll get around to later today or . . . whenever.
Awesome. Will try it this weekend.

Just be aware that insider previews look like they're gonna kill grub every time there's a version update. 10525 nuked grub just like it would installing a fresh copy of Win10 side-by-side with a fresh Linux install on the same drive. C'est la vie.

Now that the watermark is gone, how do we know what build we are on? The only way I can tell is the new color options.

Really impressed by Win10 so far. It's got the perfect balance of everything I'm looking for

Just updated my main PC from Win7 Pro and I'm really enjoying it. Whole UI seems to be much more built around maximizing real estate for big displays compared to 7. Love the 3/4 way snap functionality. I've always held off on "huge" monitors because of this but am definitely looking forward to getting a 27-30" high res display sometime

Love the options for dark color schemes that look great. Really like the edge browser and integration with note taking/one-note so far

It also runs much faster on my old spinning HDD than Win7 did. I had heard about the speed improvements but didn't realize it would be this severe

Like the option to still use the start menu in "full screen mode" for touch displays (basically giving a Win 8 style interface for those who didn't hate it)

Haven't had a chance to play with the multiple desktops yet but I'm sure that will be nice too

I've been using Win 8/8.1 on my laptop for a while so I am glad to finally have certain things from that as well (Task manager!)

Overall very pleased. Seems like there are ways to turn off most of the privacy crap for those that are worried about it

EDIT: Also pretty happy that everything seems logically placed. At first I was unhappy with how the fonts looked but went into the ClearType settings and it actually ran me through a little wizard that let me choose the font rendering style I liked out of a matrix. Pretty sweet.

Also appreciate the native functionality for mapping out what HDD usage. Should've been integrated a long time ago

Just had my first real boo-boo with 10 after 20 days or so of daily use. I opened file explorer while my NAS was asleep and clicked on a shared folder and it hung up, couldn't kill it, didn't get it's act together after the NAS woke up. Windows has pretty much always done this sort of thing since 95, yay consistency? lol.. It took a reboot to fix it, which is also pretty normal.

I upgrade it my window 7 on laptop to win 10. and it was a foolish step. It has a lot of privacy issued, too much memory consuming, bandwidth usage. overall i don't like it and trying to get rid of it

Just go into settings under update & security - recovery and roll it back if you don't like it.

Is anyone else not getting 10525? I am signed in to my account, but it continues to say that I am up to date with 10240.

I even did a reset, as I had been "playing" with it, but still nothing.

I assume you're in the Insider's Program, aren't you?

Yep. Have a bit of an update. Found that my "Microsoft account requires attention to get insider builds." It gives me the error below when selecting that. I downloaded the media creation tool to get the latest ISO and did a re-install. It seemed to be updating something in the process, but when it was finished, and am still on 10240 and getting the same message:

Still looking into the error code. There are many ideas on what might help, but haven't found a definitive fix yet.

Just how much better is the memory manager in build 10525? I'd forgotten that I was already in the insider program and never checked for a new copy until just a few minutes ago.

What specifically do you mean by the memory manager? Are you seeing memory leaks?
