Win 8.1 here.

If I upgrade to 10, I lose control over my update schedule.
As much as I miss the start menu, is there ANY reason I need to have 10?
Maybe I'll put off that free upgrade a bit longer, or even until next summer.

No. There is zero reason you would need 10.

Install Classic Shell and make your current start menu just about any way you would like.

My parents were asking about their Windows 10 icon on the taskbar, so I went over and installed it a couple days ago. So far, I think Mom likes it. The Photos app started grabbing all the pictures from her iPhone and iPad that are on the cloud (in addition to those on the PC), so she doesn't have to worry about manually transferring them anymore, which she hated doing (and thus hardly ever did). She still wants a MacBook, which she will probably get for her birthday, but this is a step in the right direction for her PC.

Should one enable the Insider builds to have faster Windows 10 updates? I keep checking for updates manually and most times there isn't any available!

I can't think of anything on Win 10 that is worse than equivalent on Win 8.x. Be it for tablets, desktops, laptops..
Well only for the Photos app for which mouse scroll moves 10 or so images at once.
Major fixes are removal of metro mode, and charms, and shutdown to RAM that does not work always.

What is the main reason behind this lovely error? Yeah I have searched on Google already and found its due to hard disk and how its setup in BIOS but need confirmation before doing/ changing anything. Never in my life I seen this with Windows 7, and never in my life I have seen where Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work!

I do have a minor irritation with Win10 on my T510, surely it is a simple setting change. I used to be able to command a shutdown, close the lid and walk away, and the laptop would shut down (in Win7). Now, if I don't wait for the thing before closing the lid, it will go to sleep in the middle of shutting down, since closing the lid tells it to go to sleep, after all (which I normally like). So now, somewhat comically, when I pull the lid open later, it will wake up just long enough to finish shutting down.
Sleep/shutdown activities can be some very frustrating issues. I've been dealing with them on two PCs for the last 45 minutes and it's just a mess. Uninstalled power management driver, downloaded and installed said driver, configured power options in Control Panel, changed BIOS settings, rebooted numerous times, endured quizzical error messages, reconfigured power settings, closed the lid several times, set events in programs that are supposed to end with automatic suspend/shutdown/hibernation... neither machine is behaving.

I'm very much not liking Microsoft reinstalling all the crud that I've uninstalled without asking first!

I do not want or need news/solitaire/3dbuilder/phone companion/etc stop bloody reinstalling them!

Windows 10 should have been what they released as Windows 8. At least they fixed it. I say Windows 10 is the best version ever, anyone running 7 should upgrade.

LOL.

Windows 10 is their buggiest OS in a long, long time. Not to mention that they didn't do much in the way of bug fixing from 8. A huge amount of bugs are present in 10 that have been present since the day 8 went into beta.

8.1 was the fastest for me and I'm sure that once they have more time with 10 that it will improve.

I had the system clock behave exactly like the disappearing Windows Start menu yesterday. I clicked to bring up the calendar view, clicked again to dismiss it, and then I couldn't bring it back up or change the time without rebooting my computer.

Taskbar menus are not the kind of things I expected to see broken in the final version. This is just sad.
