Another thing I noticed that was causing some sluggishness is the USB hubs were set to power down. I turned this off in Win 8.1, but it did not carry over.

I like having the start menu back in Windows 10, and I've tried using it for a few months (been using Win 10 since the insider preview) but I finally cracked and installed the ClassicShell start menu back again. It's just a lot more functional - especially with the two columns option. Overall Windows 10 has been working well for me, but I just don't find it as visually appealing as Windows 7. Even the taskbar looks a little nicer on Windows 8 (more transparency). Windows file explorer really is pretty ugly. But overall, it's working pretty well - I just would have never upgraded if it wasn't free.

Heh, I've been having problems with the Outlook web interface for my workplace, with Edge. However, it works perfectly in Firefox. IOW, MS's own default browser doesn't seem to play well with MS Outlook online, at least with my workplace's configuration.

Did an upgrade (ISO to burned DVD) to an old computer (Acer Aspire X1300) just to test it. Uses 8 more GBs of HDD space compared to Windows 8.1. Boots to desktop quite a lot longer too.
Had to reinstall video card driver (GT 430) used with win8.1. Couldn't get the latest drivers from NVidia to install. Had to reboot to get internet back. Rebooted twice to install some updates/new features.
Set default back to Firefox, not the new MS Edge. Liking it so far and will be testing it more.

What version of Exchange/OWA?

I'm curious if the latest version of OWA/365 is supported just fine but older versions are filled with issues.

So after much trial and error, I finally figured out again how to remove my SSD from my Acer Revo R3610 nettop. I replaced it with a platter drive, thinking my Intel 330 SSD is overheating. The system crashed once on backup and I noticed the SSD was quite hot.

Maybe that's where all my install troubles are coming from.

Not sure. My office computer is Office 2007 but I believe the server is running Exchange Server 2010.

I'm just going by the copyright date on the web interface, which says 2010. How else would I tell (as an end user)?

Did you delete all the extra unused files with Disk Cleanup? It was the same for me with Windows 7, but once I deleted everything (including all the stuff for Win 7), the footprint of Win 10 was 7 GB smaller than Win 7.

Can you delete the windows.old folder to free up space?

Yep, but it is bit tricky due to shi*load of permissions being given to SYSTEM and TrustedInstaller accounts, not to administrator.

Or you can wait 30 days, then Windows will delete it

Or run the disk cleanup tool and click to clean up system files - look for something like "old windows installs"

Things I dont like (so far).

Still had to use a start menu replacement. (but I guess that's user preference)
Groove music doesnt show up any of the music on my network drives.
Privacy settings are not global so I have to go through everyones accounts and set them.
Theres a bunch of (frankly crap) apps that get installed that I now have to go and uninstall.
The search box is pointless as you can just tap the winkey and start typing.
Microsoft web browsers still dont have adblockers.

Edit: It also installs third party crap ware as well as microsofts crapware! (It installed "Acer Explorer" on my laptop)

Edit 2: scrolling on my laptop is all jacked up as well.

I didn't find it there. I found it by adding this to the registry.....

Actually I looked on my laptop yesterday and you don't need to go into the registry to make Windows Photo Viewer the default. You can actually use the old method for this.

Right-click the photo
Select open-with -> Choose another app
Select Windows Photo Viewer and select "Always use this app to open *** files"

Don't you have to hold Shift when there is already a file association?

I upgraded my 8.1 installation on the system in my signature. I wasn't sure what to expect

It honestly went flawlessly. No problems whatsoever. Restarted a few times, and that was that.

I'll hold off on my full assessment for a few days until I've had more time with it. But the actual "setup" process could not have gone smoother. And so far, I've encountered no technical problems, bugs, or crashes of any kind yet.

Does it scroll up when you want to scroll down and vice versa?

If so, well, that's a touchpad driver thing. I noticed they started making touchpads "emulate" touch screens for scrolling, which is downright stupid IMO. Go into your touchpad driver settings and you should be able to turn off "reverse scrolling" and that should fix it.

We have Exchange 2010 and 2013 right now and Edge works fine with both of our deployments. I've moved myself back and forth a few times as I'm working on the upgrade/migration process. In fact I haven't had an issue with any browser across win 7/8.1/10 or OS X (Yosemite and elcap beta) so far.

Found out live mail 2012 work under win10, but it was somehow borked when I updated. So now I don't have any gripes with win10

Worked just like normal on mine too, except I still use ifranview.

Got in installed finally via deleting my ant--virus and a clean boot. When I booted normal in Windows 10 is was all jacked up so obviously there is a service that is an issue. Booting to safe mode is a royal pain to do, had to screw up booting three times in a row. Slowly checking services now.

An easy solution:

Holding Shift while selecting Restart, that will take you into the menu where you can choose advanced and then reboot in safe mode.

Otherwise, you can go to the old-standby MSCONFIG and in the Boot tab select your desired Safe Boot mode.

Holy Sh!t! Why did I never think of trying this? I used to use the shift + restart all the time back in w98 days when it would do the soft restart instead of going through POST again. Never thought of trying it again.

Sometimes. But that's in the Web browser (chrome). I can't get it to stop trying to use the drivers it wants to so I'll have to hope it sorts itself out.

Scrolling in the photos app is totally broken, I have to go to the scroll bar and drag the tab down.

How does the one month to revert thing work?

Can I revert now and upgrade later when some of the bugs are beaten out?

Haven't tried that yet. Current install is 24GB, previously 16GB with Windows 8.1. I'll delete the Windows.old folder ASAP, HDD is a 320GB SATA. Getting familiar with any new features it has.
