So how do you people drink wine?
I tried drinking wine the other day... you know.. sniffing it in my glass first, sipping some, leaving it in my mouth to taste for a bit, and then finally swallowing due to the nasty taste. What am i doing wrong?

What do you mean you people?

I've tried maybe 10-15 kinds of wine in my life.
Some of them cheap(MD 20/20 and Cisco), some not so cheap (for example, $8 per glass at one restaurant, and wine tasting somewhere)

So far, I'd say I liked MD 20/20 the best
I drank like 80% of the bottle.
Cisco I usually get down about 20% of the bottle...

The more expensive wines I usually stop after a few sips...

Really, wine is fucking nasty. I don't get how people love it as much as they do. It's just not compatible with my taste.

Then again, I feel the same way about beer and coffee. Though I can down beer when I need to.

Let's put it this way. Performing those gestures with bad wine doesn't do anything. But if you try some really good wine though you will do those things automatically. You will want to savour it.

I don't know. I find wine and beer get me happy drunk and liquor just gets be blotto drunk. I love to drink wine it if I'm sitting down to a good dinner with friends and family. The flavour by itself can be harsh at first but with good food, friends and family it somehow becomes part of that warm happy experience and you get to really like the flavour.

buy better wine? or be classy and put some ice cubes in it lol
I dont know about the ice cubes, but yea buy better wine. Not the boxed mess and not anything below 20bucks a bottle. 20 a bottle is still cheap but something like Clos Du Bois merlot thats 2 or 3 years old will be dry but smooth. I have a 2001 bottle I may open up this xmas. It should be excellent by now.

Try drinking wine that is paired with good food. Then you can start appreciating its complexity, etc. If you're drinking red, try beaujelais and merlot since they are sweeter.

I thought once they were bottled it didn't matter how much older they got?

Drink it from a good paper bag. That is so po po doesn't see what you have. It just adds to the experience.

How do I drink wine? Pour it into a glass, or cup, and drink it like I would any other liquid.

I've never cared for wine either. I love beer, love black coffee, and drink my liquor straight these days, but wine is an acquired taste I've just never acquired.

I drink it out of a glass.

What kind of wine were you drinking? There are many different varieties of wine...probably as many as there are different kinds of cheese. Different wines go well with different foods too.

Honestly, I think it is a bit of an acquired taste. I like white and red wines and there are many different kinds of red and white that I enjoy. Wines of the same vineyard and variety can vary in flavor from year to year, so a 2006 Chardonnay from XYV Vineyard may not taste as good as a 2007 Chardonnay from the same vineyard. It has to do with soil conditions, how much or too little rain they got during the growing season and a multitude of other factors.

I'm by no means a vinophile but I do know the basics and I do drink wine at least once or twice a week.

Heh, I do all those things as well, but enjoy wine, to.

Go to a Total Wine store and buy the stuff in the 10 - 25 dollar range. I've found that 25 bucks is about as high as you can go before the wine gets a bit too 'refined' (which means loses all real flavor). Try whites first.

This. A good Red Wine with a Tomato/Meat pasta sauce makes both the wine and the pasta sauce so much better. Wine with Food is really the best way to enjoy it.
