I tried drinking wine the other day... you know.. sniffing it in my glass first, sipping some, leaving it in my mouth to taste for a bit, and then finally swallowing due to the nasty taste. What am i doing wrong?

If it tastes nasty to you then it tastes nasty. Sniffing it in the glass, sipping some, and leaving it in your mouth won't magically make it taste better. You either like it or you don't.

Start off drinking Thunderbird as a teen, and then it all tastes good.

I usually pick up the glass with my hand, bring the glass to my mouth, and then gradually sip the wine out of the glass until the glass is empty. That is how I drink wine.

Unless you're a Wine Taster by Profession, there's no need for the ritual. Get good wine and drink it at a reasonable rate.

try some Italian moscoto di asti and brachetto d'acqui. Those are excellent wines to start on and they almost always taste good. Even non-wine drinkers agree that its delicious. It is semi-bubbly and sweet. After that, branch into Rieslings (german, new york state, washington state) as, imho, those are the 2nd easiest wines to get into.

1. Swirl glass if non-bubbly wine. Bubbly wine doesn't need swirl
2. Nose the wine
3. Sip a reasonably quantity of wine and aerate within mouth
4. drink/enjoy

Drinking in this fashion brings out the most of the wine in terms of flavors. Half of drinking wine is in the nose, don't miss out.

What bottle did you drink out of? Do you like other alcoholic beverages? I actually poured a whole bottle (minus one glass) of chardonnay down the sink a few weeks ago because it was friggin' disgusting and I think it was bad (was $6 off of regualr $13...hint). Never ran into a bottle I didn't finish before that. Maybe you ran into the same bottle?

ok wine drinkers here you go.

1. You sniff the wine when you first open it to try and see if it smells "corked" generally corked smells like wet cardboard in a basement.

2. People swirl wine in the glass to help "open it up" opening up the wine means oxidizing it allowing are to get into the wine. If you open a younger good Cabernet you can taste the difference as you drink the bottle. This is because the wine has "opened up"

3. Holding the wine in your mouth isn't needed unless you are "tasting" when doing this you hold the wine on your tongue and pull air in through your mouth. Most of what we taste is from our sense of smell and this helps you taste the wine better.

4. Hold your stemware with the stem or base. This is what it is for! This keeps your body heat away from the wine and keeps it at cellar temperature longer.

I buy a nice pinot grigio and sip it slightly chilled (but not fresh out of the fridge, as that's too cold).

Well for starters, I grab my sword and cut off the head of the nearest innocent, then, I'll cut the top of their skull off and dump out the brain. Now that I have created a skull goblet, I go down to my wine cellar and pick out the wine of the evening. Throughout the years, I have found the the fresh blood and the texture of the skull of the innocent really brings out the flavor. Everyone knows this.

What you should be doing is keeping slaves chained near the bottles of wine in the cellar. The sweat and grim from the slaves makes its way into the bottles of wine and give it a more musty taste. Plus you can beat them as you walk past, allowing you some exercise. Everybody should know this.
