So how is this Top Gun 2 thing going to work?

I just read that Val Kilmer is in. I don't know anything about actual military age restrictions but I'm assuming they're all way too old to still be actual Navy officers that can fly jets so is this going to turn into some sort of weird Iron Eagle thing, with old guys sneaking into a base and stealing some aircraft to pull off a ridiculous Hollywood mission?

Or will it be a flash back deal?

I mean - it has to be about flying, doesn't it?

The movie will be about a bunch of aging former ace pilots from the baby boomer generation who have been asked by their brilliant president to do one last job to free the world from the evil mullah regime in Tehran.

The pilots leave their homes in the rust belt and gather in Miramar where the old Top Gun school is reopened specially for them by the president.
Once again, Mav tries to beat the now geriatric Viper in his old & decrepit F5. Once again, he doesn't succeed. They also try to pick up chicks in the nearby bar. It's more difficult this time, because the women at the bar are all overweight (which Maverick ABSOLUTELY cannot stand). The only slim one is a bit too slim, a bit past her due date and seems to live in an alternate universe. Also, Maverick is kinda old, too, but with lots of wit and charm and a family package of viagra, he gets the job done. After he shags the slim weirdo, he finds out that her name is Kellyanne and that she has cosmic security clearance because she's a counselor to the president, which complicates their relationship.

The unexpected plot twist is that this time, the good looking F-14s are on the other side, and their sexy young pilots are wearing Turbans around the helmets. The good guys in their F35s get their asses kicked because their hypermodern stealth planes are riddled with technical problems and software malfunctions. They have to eject over enemy territory and are caught, tortured and put into prison.

In the end, after twittering "THE USA WILL NOT BE BLACKMAILED!" their brilliant and stable president takes over, pushing the nuclear button, yelling "you're fired" while twittering "PROBLEM SOLVED" on his iPhone. The last moments of the movie will show dozens of precision guided thermonuclear warheads detonating over Tehran, atomizing both mullahs and the American pilots.

I got it. It came to me in a dream, while I was napping (true story).

They're both going to be Top Gun instructors, aren't they. Still with that simmering rage and competitiveness against each other. Still pushing the limits whenever they hit the sky. Tom Skerrit and Michael Ironside were about as old then as Cruise and Kilmer are now, right?

Then a new group of hotshot pilots will come top Top Gun, and the rebel, out of control maverick will be - wait for it .......

A GIRL! A girl so naturally talented it defies logic, but one who plays by her own rules, nobody else's. A girl so radically gifted she's a danger to herself and to her wingmen.

She and Maverick will probably have an affair. Tom Cruise will effectively take on the Kelly McGillis role from the original. Kilmer might make it a love triangle, if he can lose some weight and become a plausible leading man again. And in the end they'll all fly against each other somehow.

Hey - the second Jack Reacher was about chicks (I couldn't even finish it). I'm assuming the second Top Gun can be about one as well.

This is pretty out there, but in today's Hollywood who knows - The girl might be Goose's daughter?

I think the homoerotic plot should be reserved for Rambo 5.

And the next Terminator movie should be about aritificial intelligence, sex robots, how the whole transgender topic applies to intelligent machines, the abuse of power by those machines and the me-too movement in the cyborg age. T-800 turns out to be the Harvey Weinstein of Cyberdyne Systems and the question "Are you John Connor?" takes on a whole new level of horror.
