I think this huge delay is really gunna hurt the PS2 games. Companies look at their sales for a particular game, see they aren't selling, and say screw Sony let's do Dreamcast or XBox or something else.
They don't care about Sony no being able to produce the unit, they care about their bottom line. Bottom line is, Sony is screwing us without vaseline, we'll screw em right back and not produce games. Sony knew they wouldn't be able to deliver the units; they should have just delayed the release of it until they had enough of a supply to cover the demand, or at least a greater portion of the demand.
They are really hurting game developers by pulling this crap. Imagine how many more games would be bought if everyone that wanted a PS2 could get ahold of it. Tons and tons. The PS2 sold out like hotcakes last night/today. If everyone that had wanted one could have gotten one, there would be more games sold, more revenue generated for the developers, more programmers hired, and more cool games made.
Sony needs to get production on those things fired up, and fired up yesterday. Get those units on the shelves lickity split, they will sell. Boom boom boom. Mo money. Game company says, 'wow, PS2 sales are rocking. Let's get a few more programmers and make some new cool games.'
