I walk to work, so I'd say about 10 minutes. I had a residence for a short time a little further out in Atlanta, and it took me ONE HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES to get to work. To me that's craziness, but a lot of people do it. Wasting fifteen hours a week sitting in a car? No thanks.

To hear the SUV haters rave, it has EVERYTHING to do with not being green. Don't move, find work closer, or start your own business. Otherwise, DO move, WTF?
I'm talking about for me personally.

I don't want to move. I like where I live, it's a nice neighborhood, good neighbors.. not many houses around.. it's easy to pay the bills with my roommate... we're all setup here. I've lived in Hillsboro before, never again. It's simply not an option.

Why should I go through the trouble and expense of relocating when my problem is mostly my automobile, not my location?

For $1,000 I could get an econobox that got 25mpg on a bad day. It would serve the same purpose as my truck. It would get me to work and back. It wouldn't be as fun to drive - but I would still have the truck.

It would more than half my fuel expense. If I chose to move and keep the truck, I would still have fuel cost issues. I have to virually save up to take road trips in my truck. That sucks.

I'd just rather not have to worry about it. How can you not agree with this? Like I said, I could get something like a Crown Vic and vastly improve my fuel economy. I doubt you'd have a problem with that? What's the difference between a Crown Vic and a Civic when talking about A-B transportation?

Nothing.

How can you not agree with this?

It took me an hour and 40 minutes to get home on Friday. 30 miles. That's an average of ~18mph. It should have been ~55+.

I can't see spending so much time commuting... period. This is the prime reason our country has moved to tiny cars. They get more house for the money, at the expense of longer commute times. Once fuel prices start increasing, they start looking for econoboxes. Then, the y have the nerve to bitch about SUVs being too dangerous to them, and using too much fuel.

Ah, I see.

It's only 30 miles. It wouldn't be much of a "commute", but there eleventy billion other people doing the same thing, and not enough space for them.

I just need a more fuel efficient car! It's stupid. Why should I spend 2$ every 17 miles(highway) when I could only spend 2$ every 35 miles?!

Like I said, it's about more than the commute. What about going to the beach, mountains? Visit my friend in Grants Pass? It shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to drive around, period.
