That's Strelok's stash? It's kinda tricky finding it, but look for a long curved hall and some boxes/crates....that's all I'll say for now....

hehe, just wait until you run into some Controllers. Even when they are not attacking you they're creepy.

How can we solve this debate?

EDIT: Doh, gotta get my hair did. I'll e back later and run STALKER at some lower resolutions and see what I can come up with.

i am guessing it will be relatively "smooth" at 14x9 with your same rig

much faster then turning all the details down and HDR off

if you please, compare running it at native resolution ... with details the way you like ...
FRAPS it .... then see what you need to do to get it to run smooth by lowering details/no AA/AF

then *only* lower the resolution ... probably 14x9 ... and compare the Frame rates

should be really interesting ... you have the perfect setup to test it, i think

yeah, i just D/L'ed FRAPS 2 days ago ... first time in a LONG time

my rig in sig - with absolutely everything maxed in game and all sliders to the right - hangs in the 30s ...
never much into the 40 and never into the 20s ... very very smooth

I actually got to finish Stalker with one ending,I'm going to wait for a patch or two before I try the true ending,I don't want to go through Pripyat again with the dodgey loading saves in that area.

it is a very good looking game ... and very smooth for *only 30s*

please, i am very interested in your results ...

until i hear from Matt2's tests, i am guessing that your Frame-rate will not improve much with the GTX over the GTS ... less then +15%
---IF your C2D is "limiting" it in any way.

and with static lighting

Max- 133

you almost DOUBLED the FPS by cutting the resolution [except the 'Min' - with static, only]

so You *could* definitely use a better GPU ... it would take care of the full HDR... but i think your CPU "rules" your average and maximum FPS ...

and the *moral* of the story ... until it is patched, use Static lighting with your rig

I think I'm going to start a thread in video about this. I want to know if other X1900 users are seeing the same dramatic drop in framerates when using Full Dynamic Lighting compared to static lighting.

look in the BIG Stalker thread ... BFG10K - i think - already documented the "issues" with FDL and nvidia 7XXX series

and there is already another thread about "stalker performance" that suggests the 'notch' down from FDL ... static lighting but with the HDR "effects" [forgot exactly what it's called]

*i am* a x1950p user with no problems whatsoever with *everything* maxed - all sliders completely to the right - including full FDL ... but then i have a beefier CPU and am running at a much less demanding resolution

FRAPS has 'blipped' 29 ... once in all my testing

and of course Vista is less efficient - so far - in gaming


haave you thought of dropping a 2nd 1900 into your MB ... seems for less than $150 you could get great details - AA/AF ... and sell it when you tire of it
