I dont know what to say. It looks like Full Dynamic Lighting is what is killing my system, regardless of resolution.

I'm at a total loss, what do you guys think? I don't think I'm CPU limited, but I can't believe that Dynamic Lighting kills my card so bad even at a low resolution.

I say upgrade GPU and upgrade the CPU later on.

please, i am very interested in your results ...

until i hear from Matt2's tests, i am guessing that your Frame-rate will not improve much with the GTX over the GTS ... less then +15%

Nah ill get a decent boost. Used a friends XFX 8800GTX before i bought the card to see if its worth it. Indeed it is.

when i am saying +15% ... that IS substantial ... and noticeable ... but i guess you are thinking "higher"

i'd like to see your benches ... i am still developing my "theories"

i was pulling about 50-60 fps a sec with the xfx 8800gtx.

i didn't think the review benches showed that much difference in STALKER between the GTX and the 640MB GTS
-they are probably using the same CPU as you do ... maybe something is wrong with your GTS install

please run FRAPS before and after ... same save and scene if you can

I never found him,still think its a bug.

Btw using Static lighting rather then dynamic lighting makes a big difference,personally I think GPU and settings make a bigger difference then the CPU.

Ending door was locked, it was annoying for me since I knew where the decoder(in the hotel) and secret door(one that needs decoder) was,but because no sign of Guide live or dead etc... I could not do the true ending.
I was very happy with performance of the game on my rig.
Ironically my favourite area of the game was Pripyat area,which is the area a lot of people(see Stalker forums for more info on that) including myself had the saving/loading bug problems with.


Pripyat area when it failed to quickload or load any saves gave me a few BSOD,ironically this is the only game and area in map that has ever gave me any BSOD in Vista since I have been using Vista..
I would have to say of ALL the games I have ever owned and believe me the list is big(250+) Stalker has probably given me the most problems.

Having said all that, it's a decent and good game,but if I had know about all the problems beforehand,I would of waited for a patch or two before playing or buying the game,however I got the Collector's Edition at a good price so can't really complain.
If and when an expansion pack comes out, I will buy it.

and thank-you for your comments and mini-review ... i was expecting far "worse"

IF i *knew* G3 and NWN2 were gonna give me such a long-lasting headache ... i would not have picked them up ... till now
just *bad luck*

... and i *will* get both G3 and NWN2 expansions ... after THEY are fully patched

I think I'm going to start a thread in video about this. I want to know if other X1900 users are seeing the same dramatic drop in framerates when using Full Dynamic Lighting compared to static lighting.

The thing is static lighting is the DX8 fall back for older cards, similar to what HL2 does.

Granted I think they need more optimizations for FDL especially on Radeons .

I tried to get an answer form Don Reba at GSC and he said it is all harware and no software setup on ATI's

The game is a masterpiece although it has some bugs/flaws. It is unique, intriguing, good looking, and it also made me brush up on my history! I hope that these Ukrainian boys can make enough money off of this game to keep on going and keep on adding to this game (sequels, ad ons, etc.)

Amazon sells it. I got my copy off Ebay because I found one cheaper there.
