and I have no qualms with outsourcing. For the most part I understood everything he said so no problems right. Before I hung I up I asked if I could have some sort of reference number to refer to if I have to call about this again and here is the conversation:

Me: Can I have a reference number in case I have to call back and refer back to this conversation.
CS: We don't have that available, but I can give you my name...last name.
Me: Sure, that will work.
CS: Tucker....Mark....Tucker

awkward silence

Me: No, what is your real name?

awkward silence

Me: Thanks.
CS: Have a great day.

Don't feel bad, I called Intel and could not understand the fellow at the other end.

I asked him where he was.

Ready for this?

Scotland.

As of late when I've had to deal with CS through a call center, I've been stuck on the phone with a black woman that has the whole drawn out accent deal and doesn't understand half the things that I say.

"Thunderbird Rd."
"Underbird road?"
"No, TH-un-der-bird Road"

I called SBC DSL yesterday and got forwarded do some script reading idiot in Bangladesh or India or whatever. When someone does that I call them on it too. That script reading crap has got to go. I asked for a supervisor to get some problems resolved and then asked for his name. At first he used his real name but when I asked him to repeat it he changed it to "Simon". That pissed me off.

At the end of it he couldn't help me since I couldn't find some kind of e-mail code word in my 17 page phone bill. I was furious. I of course found it later. The guy was such a jackass to ask me to find an email address I don't use but that they apparently need in Asia to protect my security.

I call back and try another extension and get your typical American college student on the line. Problem solved in less than a minute. Probably a 2 minute phone call total. No secret handshake. No fake names. No scripts. No email address necessary.

Amazing really.....

i have no problem with outsourcing either, it is jsut that those people usually have very bad customer service skills. While most American CS are more or less very kind.

Customer service is an American thing. Either way that's not the problem. The problem is that these people have no idea what they're doing. They were very polite. Very polite about not getting me what I needed.

And if you're curious I was simply trying to get some static IPs that they hadn't e-mailed to me last week.

See, it would work much better if they gave me an American first name and the real last name. I might believe he/she was from the US with just a bad accent. But Mark Tucker will not fly.
