westy 3213 for $479 from bestbuy on that day. i plan to get that.

That's an awesome deal!!!!

Westinghouse 32" LCD with built in HD Tuner and HDMI

$799 regular price
$479 Black Friday price

Link

Does built in tuner mean you still need the comcast box or it can decode QAM signals (unencrypted ones) meaning I can get CBS, Fox, NBC, etc in HD?

Disclaimer: I'm not an HDTV expert, I'm just sharing my limited knowledge

1) With an HD tuner you can use an antenna and get free OTA. You won't need a cable or satellite box.
2) With a QAM tuner you can pickup unencrypted HD channels through your regular non-HD cable.

Assuming my antenna signal is weak, I want my next LCD to have a QAM tuner.

I'm not sure how far you are from SF but here's a good thread which discusses OTA/QAM for that region

Hmmm...well, seems like the Westy 32" deal is more a limited-time than a limited-quantity deal.

I may have to try and if they don't do a price adjustment just return it altogether.

Yep it's definitely a limited time offer as it's a Black Friday door buster special.

You could buy the Westy now, don't open it (to avoid possible restocking fees) and attempt a PM on BF during the door buster hours?

That way you won't have to get in line at 10PM and wait in line for 7 hours. Get in the store around 7AM, bring your receipt and request a PM. If they shoot you down, you can always return the LCD?

The olevia and the other LCDs alike looked really bad when I saw the demo in the store, and the problem they/it had didn't seem like were in the control of the A/V dept. so...

It's great as an LCD monitor. I was tempted to get one as it's a better bargain than a Dell 2405/2407/3007.

Damn NewEgg sells this for $699, it really is a good deal at $539

Two reviews from the egg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustratingReview.asp?item=N82E16889022022

Great for HTPC

Pros: Picture quality is really good. I have connected it via VGA and the picture is much better than I hoped for. The auto sync fit the screen perfectly. I use a VBOX ATSC tuner and OTA HDTV is really good looking. The TV's screen adjustment could be really helpful when connecting a HTPC and dealing with overscan but I had no problems. It is awsome to have the computer in the living room with a wireless keyboard with built in trackball.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: UPS REALLY banged up the shipping box. I told my wife to not accept a damaged box with puncture holes but she did anyway. Thankfully the TV was not touched and so far it works great. Why can you not critisize UPS? They should do better. There was HOLE in the box!

Low Priced Large HD Screen

Pros: Wide Screen, Fits multiple application windows side by side, Easy to install and setup. Very bright screen, so bright I had to turn it down to a very low setting. This is their Newest Technology, user upgradeable USB port is a plus. HD TV is very good. DVD player is very High quality. Standard TV okay. Has many different settings for Aspect Ratio to find exactly what you want for screen shape, size and realism. Easy to change tint, colors, sharpness, resolution, all the options I want to get the picture I like best. You can stretch the picture, or not. I did not use the stretch feature so all pictures and movies are their correct size and shape. I Love it for my main computer screen, works great with ATI video card.

Cons: The 1600 Contrast very good, but 4000 or higher would have been better. High Def. good picture, but not a knockout, but then this is a very low priced 32" HD TV. If you are looking for the best possible HD picture, this is not it, it is very good, but it is a low priced screen. But for me it is perfect, fits my price range. If I had twice the money I would buy better TV, otherwise for those of us with limited income, this is great.

Other Thoughts: Text in XP may be blurry or choppy until you find the right color, theme combination. Large fonts in Windows fixes most of this. I can have 4 windows open at the same time, read all four from 4 feet back easily. For multi-tasking this is incredible. Playing MPEG, WMV, MOV, etc. movies from the computer hard drive is great. This bridged the gap for me from just a computer to a complete TV/Computer, digital entertainment center in one. I always dreamed of playing my Computer hard drive movies on a large screen with High Quality, this does it. This is my computer dream system. And with the large screen my eyes are never strained. I could be nearly blind and read and surf the internet now.

I think that is exactly what I'm going to try. Now to convince my wife that we need to replace the 32" SDTV in our bedroom with a nice shiny 32" HDTV.

Why does everyone need to run something by their wife?

If I want to buy something, I just buy it. Then again I was in debt up to my eye balls up until last year. So maybe I should just stop while I'm ahead

Hopefully your wife gives it the green light. That Westinghouse 32" is very hot, I'm almost tempted to get in line at 10PM for it. But the idea of sitting outside for 9 hours just isn't all that appealing.

Okay, got the set today and hooked it up. First of all, w/ no tweaking, content (both SD and HD) looks GREAT, even when compared to my Sony CRT HDTV.

At first, I thought my set wouldn't turn on...but I was a dumb a$$. There is a little power switch button on the set right by where the power cord plugs into. Just like a power supply switch.

Now to find somebody to buy my Sony as mentioned earlier! I'll take whatever, I'm not getting rid of this set!!!!!!!

It does, but without it you can't hook up a lot of stuff, like old VCRs, camcorders, or gaming consoles.

edit: my digital camera has a composite output. wouldn't be able to hook that up either.

Get some composite to S-Video adapters FTW?

EXACTLY!!!

There is no way I could use 1366x768 on a 32" monitor, it would drive me crazy.

I use 1920x1200 on my widescreen 17" laptop monitor. Im not sure what the equivalent would be, but im sure it would be expensive for 32"

FYI guys...the 3 series Olevias are not as good panels as the 5 series. Also, they do no have HDTV tuners in them...

Also, whoever said the Westy's are better screens, I have to disagree....check the AVS Forums if you don't believe me.

<--VERY happy 537H owner...

Yeah, I just picked up a used Samsung SIRT451 from ebay for $131.58. It's got a QAM tuner so if everything goes as planned I'll be able to hook it up to my basic cable and get all the local HD channels.
