There are certain accounts that require direct deposit OR a minimum average balance between your accounts at the bank.

Bank account (Debit card) vs Credit card:

Debit card - you spend your own money. Bank holds money for you. This is good. You want this. Keeps you money safe. Bank may even pay you money (a tiny amount) just to hold your cash for you.

Credit card - you borrow money from credit card company. You pay back each month, else they charge you penalty fee. You want a credit card to show you can pay back money on time. Make sure you pay back money on time.
