So i went out a few weeks ago and bought auto assault and ghost recon advanced war fighter, thinkin that i would be able to play them on low graphics without any issues on my gf4 ti 4200, sadly, this was not the case lol so ive accepted the fact that i finally need to upgrade my graphics card. I got about 150 to spend on a new one give or take a few dollars but im a little unsure as to what would be the best performing card for that price range. I picked out 3 on newegg that caught my eye, maybe you can give me some feedback on what you think. It has to be an AGP card because my motherboard doesnt support PCI express. I just built the comp about maybe a year an a half ago.

I don't know if you will find a single review that compares all 3. But the 6800xt is a striped down 6800, the x1600pro is about as bad, but the x800gto has a chance to unlock more pipelines, if you look at the specs on the cards you will see the clear bestness of the x800gto.

If you could find a card that really didnt go over 175 bucks that is better then all 3 of those then i welcome you to try, but outta all that i looked at i thought those 3 to be the best options.

Sure, if you're looking for a good card around $175 bucks, go for a 7600GT. Crap, I just realized that you need an AGP card.. well, that's a different story then.

I have read up on this card, and I hear it's almost to the speed of a 6800GT. It has higher clocked ram on the card so that is why it is so fast.

>> Notice that this has 512megs of ram on it too, not required, but it's a nice touch. Reviews are conflicting since they say it has 128bit ram on it. The other 6800nu card below might be better.

Or if you want to save a bit of money, go for the"

it has 512 MEGS of ram, but supposedly has a 128BIT bus (which is strange, because 6800NUs should have 256bit... but anyway, the 512 megs of ram is probably overkill for the 6800NU; there's very little chance that the card will be able to fill the memory buffer quickly enough to require 512. It would probably be better to go with a lower priced 128mb or 256mb 6800. I own one and I'm very satisfied by it.

I'd recommend the x800gto because of the 256-bit memory interface over the x1600(pro)

But for right around 150 you could get an asrock dual sata2 and athlon64 3000 (skt 939)... then when you save up some more you can move to pci-express but keep what you have now until then. The AsRock has both pcie and agp slots. I actually think that'd be the best way to go, considering it's also got a "future slot" for an AM2 adapter card.

There are some very cheap PCIe cards that would beat the crap out of your geforce 4, so i don't think it'd even be as long a wait as you might imagine.

Judging just from Newegg's prices right now, that upgrade would be about 175, but selling off your old motherboard and processor would certainly make up the difference.

x800GTO for now.

I'm going to recommend you don't upgrade your mobo/CPU right now. There's too many new CPU technologies about to break loose that will reduce current generation CPU prices. I say get the X800GTO now, wait a year, then upgrade your mobo/cpu/video card to whatever's a good deal then. Just skip the whole socket 939 generation.

I disagree... The beauty of the Asrock board is that you can use 939 now and AM2 when it matures... It'd allow him to get into the modern PCIe era and upgrade the rest of his system bit by bit.

i know but when i build the new system i intend on completely rebuilding it, from the ground up, and giving this old computer here to someone in my family, prolly my parents. So i might as well get what i need for now and just build anew when its time.

if I had to make that choice I would also go with the X800GTO. But if you could hold out I would save up alittle more cash and see if u can buy a 6800Ultra or a X800XTPE used for cheap. which will be faster than your current choices.
