So I got my 3rd RRoD Xbox360 back today...

and it's a completely different console than I sent in for repairs. they gave me a different power supply too from the one I sent in.

i turn on the 360 and there is no video or sound.

so yah i'm kind of annoyed. im going to call them tonight and immediately ask to speak to a manager and just ask if i can get a brand new one.

Well on the plus side it sounds like they may have sent you a falcon version since they did send a different power supply along with it. That does suck though that you're about to be going on 360 number 4.

Based on how common this story is, it seems like the failure rate for refurbs is at least as high as the (alleged) 30% rate for the original 360 design.

At some point MS should realize how much bad PR this is and either figure out how to test refurbs properly or just start giving people new Falcon replacements. Especially for anyone on their second or third RRoD.

Oh well, hopefully they'll listen to you and get you a brand-new replacement #4 in just a couple of weeks.

well rumor has it that they have been working or completed work on a falcon-esque board that would be used only to replace xenon ones that come. Its everything that falcon is without the hdmi port. they called it Opus or something like that. Never knew when that revision would be put into replacements sent in.

Purbeast0, I thought you had the first gen ones. Have you tried using your original power supply?

nah the manufacture date was october 2006.

it was funny cause i was pissed when i initially saw the date on the 360 and said to my girl "damn this means its going to die at some point."

the funny part is that it was dead before i even tried it.

Is the power supply 203 W or 175 W? If it's a 2006 model, it ought to be a 203 W power supply. Maybe they sent you a Zephyr or something but with a 175 W power supply, and now it's not delivering enough power (Falcons only need 175W as opposed to the 203W that older 360 versions needed)?

That's probably a long shot, but getting a new power supply seems unusual. So it may be worth looking into.

yah so has mine, but it is lacking this thing called "good games" which the 360 doesn't have a problem with

and they are going to be sending me out another coffin today so i gotta go through this crap again.

Damn that sucks man

Mine just rrod last friday (first day of my spring break no less ), i really hope they just send me a falcon so i don't have to worry about it breaking again.

I'm on my 3rd unit with 2 replacements in the last 3 months, and no such Falcon replacement like many of you are hoping for. MS apparently has a huge stockpile on old parts which they're still using in the replacement units.

Which is why the refurbs keep failing so often, too, I should add. I'm genuinely shocked that it's cheaper to do a repair/refurb than just give back one of the new 360s that doesn't fail so often.

Honestly, when I get mine back, I may just sell the thing and spend some extra cash to buy a new Elite. Assuming I can get $225 for the bare console + 20gb HDD (which is possible, I guess), that's only like $200 or so to get HDMI, an extra wireless controller, and a 120gb HDD. Sounds like a steal.

I'm waiting on 4th to come back to me.
Last one survived 5 hours.

This time they asked for my power supply too which i think is standard practice for your 3rd dead console.
I believe it takes 5 dead console to get them to send you a newer model.
I got so pissed off about it i registered a domain and created a crappy webpage about it.
Link is in my sig.

if i can generate enough traffic maybe they will give me a newer model earlier.

I'm debating approaching some greedy lawyers and see what they think about it.
Its such crap to have to go through this over and over again.

I'm pretty sure that'd be an easy class-action lawsuit to win. There are countless people who have had the RROD at least once.

Consider also the fact that you've lost at least a full month of paid subscription time (assuming you're a gold member, since practically everyone is)

That sucks, purbeast. I would be livid if it didn't work out of the box. How long did it take them to replace your broken one with this broken one?

My replacement just died yesterday afternoon, 6 months after showing me the rrod. Unfortunately, this time it wasn't the rrod, only on red light with an E74 system error and I get the privilege to pay $99 for them to fix this. Plus side is that my new PS3 came and I'm downloading some demos now and am just waiting for my HDMI/DVI cable to hook the thing up to my PC monitor. So at least I'll have something to play (my Wii has been disconnected from the main tv in the hopes of selling it soon).

While I was tempted to buy a 360 (especially for GoW and Halo), I've decided that trying to figure out which model, if any, is the "reliable" edition is too much trouble.

I'm going to get a PS3. I may hate Sony, but at least they don't totally screw over their customers like Microsoft does.

In other news, Microsoft's game division finally turned a profit, so I don't see them changing their evil ways anytime soon. :evil:

I don't see how it's an 'easy win' considering they ARE trying to fix things and make things right. If they weren't doing this then you'd have a point.

there are a few things that piss me off about the whole charade:

Microsoft knows damn well there is something wrong with the design of the 1st run of consoles, yet they keep shipping the same damn things back to people with bigger heat sinks on them. Obviously this isn't friggin working otherwise i would only be on my 2nd console instead of my fourth like a LOT of other people. And no, i do not keep it in an enclosed area.

The downloaded content that I purchased, such as games, tv shows, movies, etc, is completely unaccessible during the time my console is dead and in the 20-30 day "repair processing pool". Nor are the games and accessories I purchased to use with my xbox360 good for anything either. We are talking thousands of dollars here...I've been unable to use my purchased crap for a combined total of almost 90 days because of this, not to mention the fuckin phone call circle jerk you have to go through every time you call.

Because of Microsoft's rush to get the consoles out before sony, they skipped over the quality assurance part of the process, thereby screwing anyone who bought a console within the first year and a half of launch.

So am I pissed off that my defectively designed console keeps breaking, my games are useless, and microsoft continues to screw me and millions of other people instead of just giving us one of the cooler running consoles?? damn skippy I am

I think a class action suit suing them for continuously and knowingly re-issuing defective consoles to people, denying them access to their digital media, denying people access to purchased subscription services (xbox live) and just the sheer inconvience caused by their failure to FULLY admit the mistake and fix it RIGHT by replacing defective consoles with the newer, more reliable consoles would be a good thing.

If i get another refurb and it dies, i'm suing..
straight up, i'm tired of this shit

At least most of you guys have benefit of living in the States. It takes about 2 months for the fucking coffin to get up to here, then they send it back! Sometimes they send it to the service center in Canada, but most of the time they just send it and waste most of your warranty period :|

I do agree that this RROD thing is pretty stupid, they should have replaced all of the old consoles with newer ones as soon as they started having this happen... shit like this makes me angry at Microsoft....
