Finaly some sanity here...

Get a lawyer. Have him contact the DA's office in CA. Just be sure you're perpared to go back to CA for a few months if the worst happens.

if it's a narcotic possession it could be cocaine/smack/etc, or it could be script pills, like oxycontin etc

a felony usually means that it's a decent amount, as in enough for a group of friends - depends on the state though

'round here if it's less than 1 gram, it's a misdemeanor

Posession of just about anything stronger than marijuana is a felony in Kahleeforneeya, although appearing in court and taking the rap usually either gets you drug school. (prop 36) or "diversion" which is can get your record sealed.
