So I was up at school on 12/30 to watch a basketball game w/ my gf then we decided to crash for the night at my place up at school (it's a townhouse right next to a train station that goes into philly).

around 11:50 pm I looked outside my bedroom window and I see this guy attempting to open car doors in the parking lot that my car was parked in!!!!! car door # 1 was locked so he went to the car parked next to mine, it was locked as well, and he walked a little bit past the lot.
I called 911 and gave them the description of the guy. The dude came back to the lot and opened a red car parked next to the lot and he was rummaging through the stuff in there, looked like he got stuff. He also broke into another car too before the cops finally came and caught him red handed!

It was crazy, if it wasnt for me that fscker would have gotten away with breaking into all the unlocked cars in that lot!! The cop says that since i was a key witness that i might have to testify in court though, this is what being a good citizen gets me!! Once the guy gets out he will probably seek revenge on me too, argh

anyone know the minimal sentence for this kind of stuff? I think it might be 4 years minimum but i'm not too sure... and he wasn't armed

went to a basketball game at my school on 12/30, decided to stay at my house at school
saw some guy breaking into cars, called cops, and they arrested him
now i might have to go to court and testify
once he gets out, he might kick my ass

Ha. If he is a first time offender he'll probably be out in 30 days with good behavior.

if he's a first timer and unarmed he'll probably just get probation.

If he's a first time offender and the justice system is even close to as crowded as Rockford, he'll get probation. If he is a repeat offender, he will probably get 3-12 months.

He looked pretty young... I would say around my 23-24 and he dressed like a total stoner and he looked a high as a kite in the cop car too... He was def. an amateur, he didn't go for car stereos or anything, just for cash and stuff... I just hope he doesn't have any inner-city connections

crystal meth addict

My cousin did the same thing once, he got booked for 15 years, got out on parole in like 3 years. He got shot while on parole and put back in, wont be out till like 2011.

Shame the way drugs ruin your life.

I am sorry that doing the right thing has you worried. Too bad you aren't in Texas. You could have legally shot him from your window and prevented all that worry.

He'll get off with probation and being the drug addict he is, he won't get a fudge about probation and come back to kill you.

If he had been setting cars on fire I'd doubt that he'd have gotten 4 years.

Thieves like him are common specially in university towns. They just hop from one car to the next looking for easy pickings. The problem is that they are like mushrooms, one gets locked up, another one takes his place.

The good news is that he'll probably plead out and move along to his next crime. Most criminals don't want to face the more serious charges of assault / battery / manslaughter / first degree murder to hurt someone who got them arrested. If they did, all of our cops would be dead.

nothing major, i think the main factor was he stole a car when the police came and lead them on a chase crashing into stuff.
