So I guess a movie about black men becoming 'White Chicks' is ok...

I find it amusing that apparently it's ok for two African American guys (The Wayans Brothers) to play two white women in the new movie, White Chicks.

I wonder how far into production a movie about two white guys donning black-face and playing black girls would go.

Granted, I know there've been movies in the past that have white guys acting "ghetto" and playing basketball or some other "black" stereotype, but AFAIK, they never put on black make-up to look black.

Not that it matters, but I'm neither white nor black.

Soul Man is a good example of what you talk about (white guy playing a black guy w/make-up on). I think that if two white guys dressed up as two black girls it would be fine....but there would probably be an uproar from the activist.

There was some movie back in the 80's about a guy that overdid some tanning lotion so he could appear black and get into a black-only college. I forget the name. It was really cheesy. Of course, good luck trying to do that nowadays.

Remember, racism won't truly begin to die until there are no decisions left that are based on race.

Totally off topic of this thread but this is a much better movie with an "all-star" cast.

the reason that it is ok is well...there just aren't a whole lot of stereotypes to be exploited that would offend the white population. If the movie were about white men posing as black women, it'd be open game for offensive stereotypes.

i may be wrong, but are there any stereotypes about young white women that society considers offensive?

Actually this was pretty common in the early days -- before most of you guys were born. I'm surprised you guys didn't know about this. I think the term was "men in black face" or something.

but i believe you are speaking about the minstrel show. some good information about the history, background, and just general information about the show, sometimes also refered to as blackface.

Yeah I'm aware of blackface and have some idea of it's origin. I think Jim Carrey got heat awhile back for wearing blackface also. But yeah, most of this is before my time, and I'm only aware now of the interesting divide in how certain races can get away with mimicking other races, while others cannot.
