I usually Prefer ATI for video, but they make a GREAT chipset, AND their latest video cards rock ! I also have a SCSI controller card that I paid quite a bit for (SRCU21 or something like that) and come to find out it is designed to ONLY work with an Intel chipset motherboard ! That is crap ! like getting a Dell, and you can only have a Dell PSU to power it. Oh, wait, they think like Intel, because they are in bed together ??

personally, i don't care who's in bed with who. for all I care all of them can jump in bed together and have themselves a technology-gangbang, as long as they make parts that actually work together!

all I'm saying is that there are not just reasons to buy AMD, there are reasons to buy Intel as well. granted, nowadays, the AMD pro's seem to be bigger then the cons for most people, but just because i happen to belong to the other group doesn't make me an idiot, or worse: a narrow minded techno-racist.

I simply prefer the "feel" of an intel CPU with an Intel chipset to the AMD stuff. for what I do with my rig (development, Photoshop, and office stuff) I simply want the most compatible, standardized machine possible. this is what i have now:

-Intel P IV 3,0 Ghz Northwood
- Asus P4C800 I875P
- 1024 MB Twinmos PC3200
- Asus 9600XT
- Maxtor 160 GB SATA
-Antec SLK3700AMB

and it is suits my needs perfectly.stable as a rock, very cool, is faster then I am. so who are you to tell me i should've gone with AMD?

You do realise that all the CPU's are standardised, yes?
Be it for certain "things". Intel and AMD make standardised 686(?) CPU's that conform to that instruction set.
AMD not only supports the standard x86 instructions, but also SSE and SSE2 (not SSE3 because that it mainly, IIRC, to do with Intels' HT), but they also support 64bit enhancements, so if you want compatability/standardization, they are both as good as each other for currect stuff (they HAVE to be as they conform to the same standards), but AMD also currently conforms to future standards (although Intel will be coming out with their OWN, SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT version IIRC, of 64 bit enhancements, after AMD, so they are not conforming to the already "set" standard.

Many people choose AMD because either:
a) they want something cheaper than Intel, so they chose AMD XP line, as it offers similar performance at a lower price
b) they want something faster than Intel, so they choose AMD-64 as it offers better performance at a smiliar price.

I have never had an issue with either of my 2 AMD machines, besides a crappy power supply and crappy generic RAM. Those 2 things have nothing to do with AMD or Intel, but my own choice of budget components.

Hey..............here's a novel idea................who the hell cares what anyone else chooses to run as far as chips in their systems or anything else????

Is everyone as "hard core" about the car they drive..................the clothe they wear...............the schools they attend...........the friends they have.......................the homes they live in.................the restaurants the dine in.....................the beer they drink.............................the bread they buy???????

Of course not! People have different opinions for different reasons and make choices based upon their own likes/dislikes, feelings, emotions, budget, etc.. I know a lot of people whom still live by the age old addage "you get what you pay for".............................which usually means more expensive is better, or others live by name recognition (i.e. buy John Deere mowers, Ford or GM vehicles, etc.) I don't subscribe to either and buy what is best at the time for the best price regardless..............but hey.............we're all still free to choose right? So let the others whom which you disagree with live their own life and find out for themselves!

Don?t sweat the little stuff.

My brother in-law will only purchase Intel after he purchased a Duron and found out that his system is incompatible with his printer and some of his flight school software. He claimed that AMD is so bad because he got viruses even with antivirus protection.

The funny thing is that he wouldn?t believe me that the problem is from using Windows ME and IE. But, there isn't a point to argue because I know that I?m right and happy, while he still is happy with his ignorance.

I have a friend who thinks that Intel products are the absolute be-all end-all of computer processors. He thinks AMD products are in a word, crap. I've owned Athlon's that run ~2.4 GHz with crap ram that cost me $77, but that's never good enough for this guy. His mentality of "Intel must be better because they sell more processors than AMD" is driving me up the wall. This isn't a case of your ignorant computer user either, this guy knows a fair amount about them (except for incessantly calling his tower by the name of "hard drive").
Can't take him seriously, then.

Unfortunately, if you don't have a nice A64 rig to rub his face into, this might be hard. In that case, don't bother with this guy. Hell, there are people in this world who still hate blacks, jews, gays, etc., and nothing will change their minds.

Speaking of hatred, the AMD lovers here have far more hatred than Intel lovers. Just an observation
That's because with <16% market share, we're bein' put down by THE MAN!

I'll take my Intel anyday, much more reliable and I dont have to jump through hoops to get an RMA. Intel doesnt care what heat sink you used or the thermal compound because they make quality cpu's that arent so damn picky and sensitive about everything

Personally I don?t care what you buy or why you buy it, but I am curious of what ?AMD stuff? you have used and how long you used it before determining that you don?t like the ?feel? of it as much as Intel stuff.

No offence intended as I have no doubt that your Intel system ?feels? smooth, but if you haven?t used some of the current ?AMD stuff? in a similar configuration how can you compare the ?feel? of it. Please don?t tell me that you determined the ?feel? of ?AMD stuff? based on five minutes use of an OEM system at your local Best Buy or CompUSA.

Exactly my point! These Weekly/Daily flame threads would be a lot less frequent if people could/would reallize they probably will never change an opposing view...........and that there will always be an opposing view.........................

To the OP

Just let him think whatever he wants. It's guys like him who keep companies like Intel in business. Just forget about it and do your own thing.

LONG LIVE AMD!

Previous system of mine: AMD Thunderbird
Current system of mine: Intel P4
Future sytem of mine: AMD A64

The best way to get through, Find the biggest, toughest, and smartest, Minority person you can (Black, Hispanic, Jew, etc.) , Tell him they want to fight him, but He should not worry because god made more white people he must be superior.
