So I helped my sister move yesterday, and this is all I got as payment.

Why is that so?, I've helped older people or people in wheelchairs retrieve stuff that high on the grocery store shelf, I'm '5"11 with long arms so I can reach most anything and you know what, I feel good when I help out someone who can't reach those items, I don't stand around and act like they owe me something. If you lived next-door to me and needed help moving a fridge I would gladly do so and again, not expect payment.

Apples and Oranges.

It's still in it's original shrink wrap, and it's taking forever to charge because it's not using the HP barrel, but what can I do with this useless piece of junk?

Maybe I can use it as a chopping board or something? :hmm:
Any ideas?

:awe:

An HP TouchPad can run Cyanogenmod Android.

Is that 16GB or 32GB? Do you have the Touchstone inductive charger?

I saw a mobile power supply roundup by an engineer who analyzed them and the HP Touchpad's barrel was the absolute best quality power output. It's hard to tell, but the end of the barrel twists off in a neat way to fit the international AC prongs.

Apples and Oranges.

Fair enough, but if it's a family member I would expect a free meal or a six-pack, nothing more, he got a tablet, not a nice tablet, but still it's a useable one worth at least $50 on Ebay if he chose to sell it.

I have never expected anything from friends or family I helped move. Many times they have me drive the truck since they don't trust themselves.

Usually lunch/dinner is covered and a few drinks after/during/etc.

It's called being friends and family, that's all I need.

Put Android on it and it will be an acceptable device. My daughter has my old one.

Those things are very picky with chargers. Use the HP one or it may never charge.

Does Bluetooth and camera work? Haven't upgraded since 4.1.2 I need those functions. Which ROM did you use?
Haven't visited http://forum.xda-developers.com/hp-touchpad/development for quite a while. :\

It's rebooting occasionally and I haven't been able to get any games to run. Haven't tried the camera, and bluetooth freezes it.

I am using a CM11 based ROM, forget the name since I just felt like getting anything on it.

Tomorrow when I get some time, I'll poke around and find a more stable rom, even if I have to dumb down the Android version.

The battery has been fantastic since I've put Android on it - charging really well using my OnePlus charger and hasn't dropped much at all after about an hour of updates, installation and heavy use.

Using my OnePlus charger and it's been charging perfectly. WebOS complained about it not pushing enough power, but it's been fine so far.

My iPad charger couldn't even get the thing to turn on...lol

I've still got two of those. Haven't used them for a long time though. I wonder if kit kat runs well on it. I think mine have ICS.

You need 2 amp to charge properly. You can get cyanogenmod on there pretty easily.

Actually, the damn thing needs a supply over 5.0 V to charge. The barrel charger puts out 5.3 volts and the thing damn near refuses to recognize any other charger because most put out 5.0.

I really hate that.

I may have to put Android on mine as it's getting outdated and difficult to use on many websites.

Actually, while WebOS complains that there is insufficient current, it does actually charge.
I've charged mine successfully using a wimpy 0.75A generic USB charger.

If you ever let it overdrain, you'll need to reflash the charger firmware, which isn't as bad as it sounds. I've had that happen to 2 out of 5 TouchPads (the folks')

Most such devices use precise resistance values on the USB data lines to signal how many amps the power supply can provide. Unfortunately, the values aren't standardized.

Charges if you lock the display. iPad is the same way. It's charging (slowly) while the display is off. As soon as the display lights up for you to see the current charge level, it's no longer charging (because there's too much power draw for the backlight).

My touchpad now sits on the touchstone charger and functions as a clock. With cyanogenmod on it, it's okay. It's old, it's slow, but works as a web browser when my wife wants to watch TV (TV is my monitor) and my phone is further away. Games are slow, it occasionally freezes (has happened 3x since I got it) and I have to let the battery die then plug it in to charge it then it'll come back.

But overall, 99% of the time i use it by glancing at it to figure out what time it is.

I've been looking for a cheap touchstone charger for it, but the prices are insane.

I was planning to use it as a clock radio for my bathroom, toilet reading and a shower radio. Hopefully it doesn't die from all the steam in the bathroom. If it does, so be it. ^_^

At least it's not a Playbook. :awe:
Funny enough I know ONE guy who loves his Playbook. Granted, he loves it only because it syncs with his corporate blackberry and it makes some of his managerial tasks much easier vs using the phone.
