Last weekend, a buddy brought in his broken system and gave it to me. Right on, a free fixer-upper for me. It was never stable for him, so I determined it was the MB after a weekend of tinkering. Here are the specs of the system.
Barton core Athlon XP 2600+
FSB ???. Did the 2600+ come in a 400 FSB? I haven't seen the code on the CPU. It was purchased in mid '03.
MSI K7N2 Delta-L
1 GB of DDR 400 Kingston HyperX
Radeon 9800 Pro
Antec Truepower 380
I think that's everything. Another friend has an old Epox EP8KHA motherboard around he's not using. Link to the board Would the Epox work with the Barton 2600+? It supported the 2600+ T-Bred, but it's only a 266 FSB chipset, the KT266. Should I get a different MB instead, and are there any good S-462 mb's in stock anywhere? I'm planning on using it as a Linux system if I get it working, and I'm not going to be overclocking. Thanks for your opinions.
