I never used BitTorrents. I am pleading innocent/the fifth/etc. etc. They have the wrong guy, etc. etc.

And I don't think using BitTorrents is smart - downloading P2P is never smart.

But every American does it.

You realize "pleading the fifth" is protection against self-incrimination, correct?

I'm American and I haven't used PSP since Kazaa in like 2001.

Just a joke I'm innocent anyway - and it was an ISP warning - I'm guessing someone 'got on my wifi because i wasn't sure how to turn on protection for a router'. I should call up my smart internet friends to help me.

Plus our gov't officials can plead the 5th - it sounded like the right thing to do.

Yeah, be smarter about what you steal and where you steal if from. If you're not bright enough to figure out how to do your pirating without being caught you deserve to be kicked off your ISP.

LOL. It says it was a Bit Torrent download. How would you 'be smarter'?

I find it funny that Universal Studios is charging me with theft when they stole Thomas Edison's camera equipment in the great East Coast/West Coast studio wars, not to mention the 40+ years of movie theft they contributed to the American cinema scene. I guess lawyers make everything OK though.

Now you're just being silly.

Whys that? I'm pointing out the obvious hilarity of DMCA and the history behind copyright infringement.

You are hardly doing that.

Here's what you're doing:

You're justifying your actions based on something that happened decades ago when the show that you downloaded wasn't even around and the company that produced it wasn't even owned by the company you're complaining about.

Once again, they aren't my actions. I dono how I got this - prolly an error or something/

But anyway - I am showing how intellecutal property has NEVER been protected fairly and equally. It used to be WASPs who controlled the early media in the 20s and 30s and they lost out to the immigrant communities like Zukor, MGM, Universal, etc. etc. They all pirated from each other and the only way they 'won' was based on who had the most money and political power.

Thats how it works then and thats how it works now. That is why little grannies and college students get sued by corporations that will most likely soon be over run by newer and more advanced forms of media. It's all a cyclical pattern and the view you are taking is very reductionist. History is as important "decades ago" as it is now.

You seem to be building quite a strong case. I'd suggest sending a letter explaining your position. Once they understand your point of view, they will stop bothering you. Hell, they may even offer you a quite a settlement in order to guarantee your silence so as not to expose their hypocritical business practices. I think you may be on to something.

So satirical it hurts.

This is why I don't like proxies, because they obscure identities and help prevent users from getting such cool dmca letters.

Get a govt level hard disk eraser that writes patterns of 1's and 0's several times.
Then shoot the hard disk with a bullet, burn it, and bury it in the back woods.

The DMCA is coming for you! Obstruction of justice charges are less than for stealing IP

I think typically the issue with bittorrent is when you upload, not when you download - at least according to my ISP.

My solution? $15/mo for Newsgroup access. Faster speeds, more content, no DMCA notices.

this might sound like a stupid question. But what if you have a vhs tape but the movie company has never released a dvd and does not plan on it. Is it technically illegal to make a dvd copy for yourself. I really am not question opinion I am curious about letter of the law.
