So for some extra cash next year I decided to get a second job over the summer. The movie theater seemed like a cool place to work, since I'd get all those nice employee benefits (free movies, posters, popcorn, etc). I've been a model employee for the whole summer, always showing up on time and never breaking any rules whatsoever. However, an accident occurred which was not my fault and now I'm taking the fall for it.
So last tuesday someone paid me with a 100 dollar bill (I was working concessions). At intervals throughout the day, managers come around and take some of the money out of your drawer, usually just the big bills like 20's and up. So the manager comes around, picks up the hundred, and I don't think twice about it.
That night, after my shift was over, I was told that I was exactly 100 dollars short on my register. When I told the night manager who counted my drawer about the 100 dollar bill, he said that he had never gotten a 100 dollar bill from my register that day. He told me not to worry and that it had probably just been accidentally placed in one of the other registers. It seemed fine to me, and I left.
Fast forward to thursday: I show up that morning for work only to find that my timecard is gone. I asked the manager present where it was, and he told me that they never found that 100 dollars and that my timecard has been revoked. I talked to the boss and she said that they would be viewing the security tape of the concessions counter to see if anyone else besides me or the manager had gone into my register that day, and to call them later that night after they had watched the whole thing. She assured me that no one believed that I had taken the bill (which I DID NOT, for those of you who are still in doubt) and that they would do their best to find out what happened.
So later that night I call them at the time they told me to. This is pretty much how the conversation went with the other boss (not the chick, who is cool):
Me -- So, did you find anything?
Him -- No, the only people going in and out of your drawer that day were you and the manager.
Me -- So the bill was lost after it was taken from my drawer, correct?
Him -- Well the money in the drawer is your responsibility.
Me -- ... But it was taken out of my drawer by the manager. That makes it his responsibility.
Him -- No, not really. We're going to have to let you go.

So even though everyone at the theater believes that I didn't take the money and that I did nothing wrong, I get the boot because someone has to take the fall. Is this right?
Cliffs:
-- $100 goes missing from my register at movie theater
-- not my fault
-- I get fired anyways
