This thread reminds me so much of the summer of '03, when I went to Ft. Benning. I have a bone spur in my left heel, which prevented me from completing Basic, so otherwise I'd be in Iraq or somewhere.

You're going to have a great time. Just remember that everyone else there is in the same boat you are, so you'll make friends quickly. Also, a tip: Do NOT stand out.

I'm planning on joining the AF after i graduate but I think i'll stick out seeing as I'm asian...

Army SMP doesn't need basic training, you can still attend drill without being enlisted. Hopefully your recruiter didn't lie to you. If your going to be an officer, you can go to ranger school after BOLC III, used to be called OBC. You cant got to Special Forces right after ranger school, you have to apply when your Year Group is eligible usually when your a 1LT promotable.
Are you just going to basic and no AIT? If you are going to AIT whats your MOS?
Anyway best of luck, do what your told and you'll be fine. And please make sure to pass your PT test.

Don't let your drill instructor ever know your name. Do everything perfectly and just blend in with everybody else. Don't slack off for even a second; your drill instructor has eyes everywhere.

Also, know that basic training is really just a game. Your drill instructor isn't pissed off at you, he's just doing his job. Understand that him yelling at you is the same as him talking to you.

there are plenty of asians in the military. filipinos and koreans make up a huge part of our armed services.
