So I sold an FX-55 on eBay for $750.
I was paid immediately and shipped two days later, when I went to the bank to make sure the money was there.
I agreed to ship to an unconfirmed address only because I already had the money in my pocket. I had no idea that Paypal could do a reversal of payment, which took place about 2 weeks later when someone said that the credit card or bank account I was paid with, was stolen.
My paypal account has a negative balance and after an investigation which concluded that I was responsible for the loss, because of shipping to an unconfirmed address, I was sent an E-mail asking me to deposit the $750 to the account again or that it would be sent to collections.
I contacted the police in PLANTATION FL which is where I shipped the item to and they were not very helpful. In fact, they sounded very lazy over the phone, like they didn't care, and I was told that this is a CIVIL case and that I need to take it to a lawyer.
Paypal however, insists that this is a criminal case, and that I need to report it to the Police here in NJ and over there in FL
I conducted an investigation myself by doing a search of the address I was asked to ship to, and found out that the place is a UPS P.O. Box store. The thief had the items (there were other ebay users scammed) shipped there.
I called the UPS store and was told that a black guy with the name of "CAMERON GILLES" (I think it is a rapper's name) with a NY college ID showed up claiming to have just moved to FL and that someone shipped him some stuff there by mistake.
He was allowed to collect the stuff and walked away with at least $1500 worth of merchandise from Ebay.
The UPS store manager was very nice and even sent me photocopies of the guy's college ID and signature. Too bad it is just a bunch of crap!
I still cannot believe that a Paypal can get away with refunding someone's stolen money and would simply charge me for it. Shouldn't Paypal have an insurance company that handles all of these matters. Or at least split the bill in half (both victims)
At first I wasn't even worried about the whole thing because I shipped USPS Priority Mail and insured the package for $750. However, it turns out that the insurance only works for lost or damage items, not stolen! I wish they had told me that when I was asked if I wanted to insure the package.
In case you can't tell, I am new to the Paypal, eBay thing. I mostly buy stuff. I have only sold a few ramdom things.
