So I ordered this pizza.

Left instructions in the order to please use the side door by the garage. Turned the lights off at the main door, turned the lights on right above the side door by the garage.

Who wants to guess which door the driver went to and rang the doorbell at?

FFS. You have the easiest, most enjoyable job in the world and it pays way more than it should. At least follow some simple instructions.

(Disclaimer: I used to have that job, made $15/hour after paying for fuel and it's not really work. Driving around all night listening to music is not work.)

I agree. Driving around all night listening to music is not work, delivering pizza to douchebags is.

... because going to the obviously lit up door is so much to ask.

I regularly honored far more ridiculous requests. It's not hard.

Obviously he didn't. That's kinda the point.

I can see how it would be hard to miss, since it's directly below the address in bold text.

I forget that literacy and attempting to do a good job is optional now.

Yes because it's so important for you to go to the side door instead of the front, you should definately spend time on the phone giving explicit instructions about which door the pizza delivery guy should go to, I'm sure the guy taking your order was all over that. <eye roll>

I didn't order by phone, I typed a one-sentence instruction using my handy dandy computer.

And yeah, it's reasonably important because I was trying not to wake people up that sleep right next to that door.

The point is, it's a very simple request that shouldn't really even need to be stated. If there are two doors and one is well-lit and the other completely pitch dark all around it, which one would you pick? Common sense much?

You are right but you are also expecting too much at the same time. Pizza delivery may indeed be an easy job and you might think that it would be easy to follow the instructions. But come on everyone and anyone knows that it's college kids, teenagers and the like who mainly take those jobs. Do you REALLY think most of them are going to be paying that much attention?

I did, when I was a teenager and had that job. It's seriously the best job on earth for that stage in life, the least one could do in that position is attempt to do more than the minimum amount of effort necessary to not get fired.

Doing a great job in service industries pays off, too. I've been there, and I make sure to reward the effort. There are many, many people out there who do the same.

Certainly. I was/am one of them when working in retail jobs. But seriously are you telling me that the majority of people you worked with were the same?

I expect too much of people in general. It was a mild rant thread, don't analyze it too much.

Didn't you start a thread about people's ordering habits at Quiznos?

The kind of lots of meat.

Papa John's, if you mean from where.

... please, nobody start an "OMG CHAIN PIZZA SUX" argument. I know it does. I have limited options where I live after a certain time, though.

I used to deliver pizza back in the day too, but gas was probably half the cost it is now. I kinda doubt these guys are making $15/hour after paying for gas.

It was about the same as it is now toward the end of my delivery years. Actually was probably higher for part of that when gas prices went crazy high for a while.

It depends on the city, I suppose, but around here... easily $15/hr. There are several colleges here, and a block of like 15 hotels right next to each other. They routinely take 4-5 orders at a time and use virtually no fuel to get generally great tips. Drunk guys in hotels tend to tip very well.
