So I purchased an iphone 6s+, I don't get it!

I've been a long time Android user, mainly because I like the OS better than the competition; it suits my needs better.

I wanted to try a different OS, so sick of Samsung BS and Android OEM's inability to make the perfect device that has everything a power user wants and willing to spend tons of $$$$$ on. so I visited an Apple store and purchased an iphone 6s+ 16GB (MetrpPCS unlimited everything plan) to try it out. It's been a week since I got it, and I still don't see the appeal of iOS for a tech guy. While my wife , in the other hand, went crazy when she saw it, not for the features, just "how it looks".

It has a nice screen, good battery life, nice camera & build quality (slippery as hell though). But, the OS itself feels boring and restrictive. I mean if iOS 8+ was released in 2010, I'd buy it, but with the features offered in Android nowadays, I don't see the point in spending all this $$$$$ for such a limited experience for a tech loving guy. I'll probably buy a 64GB version for my wife, I brought this to myself I guess.

I usually use Chrome, when you open an app, say Slickdeals, and click on a link, it opens it in Safari! WT? Why not give me the option? Shouldn't they be fined like Microsoft? Not only they force Safari, you can't even remove/disable it!

I have some music files stored in Google's Drive, I opened Drive app and tried to play an mp3 file. I received an error message that "not supported file type" Shouldn't the file be opened directly in the default Music app? nope! So I opened drive webpage in Chrome, same problem, but will eventually play it in browser, take up the whole screen can't do anything else or the playing will stop! Can't change icon's sizes, browse files directly like other OS's when hooked up to my PC (have to use 3rd party applications for that!). Limited storage upgrade option, Can't swipe to remove items in Notification area, have to delete one by one, or the whole thing one time!

I still have one more week to return it, but I tried to "experience modern iOS", but I don't think it offers outstanding options that will let me leave Android. So I'm still waiting for that special OS that will be as flexible as Windows OS, with OEM's who will let you truly customize each components when purchasing.

I'm not new to iOS, have an ipad 3 32GB (Son's) & ipad air 2 128GB (Wife's).

How many iOS vs Android threads do we really need in the Mobile forum?

A lot less than we currently have.

While I too get annoyed at some of the restrictions in iOS, I do not then make The Irrational Jump conclude that the entire OS is stupid and useless for not only me, but everyone else as well. I know plenty of highly technical people who do just find with an iPhone, and I know just as many who prefer Android.

Tech person or not, not everyone wants to tinker with a phone, a lot of people just want it to work, as smoothly and as fast as possible with user experience tops.

User experiences are basically equivalent.

My Android set is as smooth as the same year iPhone, it's also just as janky. And yes, iPhones can jank, and crash.

With that said, maybe I should just start another thread. Because we obviously love this discussion so much that we can't keep it contained. I'll need a new title to stand out from the others, though.

Maybe "Why my opinion based solely on my usage and experience is much more informed than whatever opinion you have and you should just do what I'm doing because my personal experience obviously applies to all people of all types because I am the center of the universe."

I think they should ban the whole "I switched my mobile OS and this one sucks!" types of threads, granted there seem to be more of the opposite of this thread (apple users "trying" android) but both are annoying. If you don't like the mobile OS after trying it just switch back, you're not providing some revelations to this forum by posting up these stupid rants.

Google doesn't let you uninstall core Android apps, either! Try removing Chrome on a Nexus (and likely other devices).

And the "why isn't Apple fined like Microsoft" question was answered a long time ago: because Apple doesn't have a monopoly. The problem a decade or so ago was that Microsoft was abusing its PC monopoly to give Internet Explorer an unfair advantage. Apple may have a large chunk of the US market, but it's far from dominant.

Now, if Samsung continues to flail around and no Android maker fills in to prevent Apple from surging ahead in the US market, you might have an argument... but not until then.

Yeah but at least you can change defaults in Android, which is what his main complaint was.

Oh, I know -- just noting that some of his arguments are based more on a rose-tinted perception of Android than the reality.

Yeah that's true, you can remove the google apps but it requires rooting and maybe a custom ROM so it's not exactly easy.

I have the Asus Zenfone2 with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage...etc It had tons of bloatware installed, but I managed to disable/not use/remove whatever I wanted! iphone came with a watch app preinstalled for God's sake, WTF! this's so funny.

I'm looking for an alternative for my zenfone2, which is why I tried the iphone. I might end up buying a tmobile note 4 or a Z5 premium.

As I've said before, I have a couple of ipads & a mid 2010 macbook pro, BUT for years I've always wanted to try the iphone myself (bought my wife iphone 4 back in the day and she loved it (but after a year it wouldn't charge, sometimes will just switch off, and bought my mom iphone 5, she didn't have a data plan, and data was disabled on her phone, but the damn thing kept on turning data on whenever it wanted, tons of $$ at the end of the month for data usage, google for this problem, so I sold it and bought her a note 3 neo) and I was just shocked how baby like the OS truly is, it's like it was made by fisher price.

Nothing agaist iOS in general, alot of people love it and I can understand why, but MY EXPERINCE is that it's nothing special to wait in line for, and for all those who didn't like the thread, move along, life is too short!

Google is requiring less apps to be installed than before and also more apps can be uninstalled than before. Android exists for those apps and still they are less restrictive about them than Apple even if they do almost nothing for Apples bottom line (beside in a complex, if working, lock-in scheme).

if you were looking for this and it was a requirement you should have known iOS would be dead on arrival.

there's nothing to get, really. some people like coke, some people like pepsi. I found aspects of my galaxy s6 remarkable (screen, camera), and others pretty awful (wifi calling drops on sleep, awful battery life). I like the package iOS offers this generation, maybe the next generation will go to android. Maybe windows phone will kick it out of the park (I liked my samsung focus)... but there's nothing to "get" about choice.

My wife got iPhone 6S because she was tired of all the options in One Plus One (or so she says).

Just between you and me, I think she simply wanted a pink phone.

Everyone is missing the real piece of advice in OP:

Don't show the female in your life a pretty iDevice unless you are willing to buy her one.

Stop using Google Drive for your music needs like a sociopath and upload whatever you want onto Google Music and use the app.

If you have an iPad how did you not know all these things about iOS?

As I said in the OP, those ipads are for the wife & 2 year old toddler. I only use them when they need updating/installing something/books/something wrong..etc

It's quite a different experience when I use the thing everyday for a week and get to experience different aspects of the device.

Funny thing is my wife has a oneplus one 64GB, between snapchat/facebook/whatsapp/recording videos..etc the thing is like 99% full, so it's slowed down a bit; so she complains, but she refuses to give it to me to backup the stuff and free up some space, somehow the device is considered old & slow now and she wants a new iphone 6 plus!

I had an iPhone 6+ 128gb for about 4 days. I had to return it because I couldn't get it to work correctly with the Sync in my truck (or my Moto 360). That's the main reason I switched back to an Android device (Note 4). I also couldn't figure an easy way to change my ring and notification tones.I actually really liked the device hardware, and the OS is not terrible anymore.
