IIRC, if you use the gmail app, it'll open your links in chrome.
Really? That seems peculiarly random.

I have one browser that syncs across all my devices, PCs (windows and Linux), phones, and tablets. I'd get really annoyed if my devices start using different browsers in different circumstances that I have no control over.

Funny thing is my wife has a oneplus one 64GB, between snapchat/facebook/whatsapp/recording videos..etc the thing is like 99% full, so it's slowed down a bit; so she complains, but she refuses to give it to me to backup the stuff and free up some space,

that doesn't make me suspicious at all.

but I also prefer Android to iOS, /shrug.

Wait until iOS 9's Jailbroken, which will happen sooner than later. It will make the phone infinitely better. iOS with Activator + iFile + Winterboard + Springtomizer 3 = the most customizable phone out there. I completely refuse to use bone stock iOS. Once JB Cydia makes it so very awesome. I want an iP6s+ badly, I'll buy one the same day the 9.0 JB's released.

I hate iOS because it requires me to use Itunes whenever I want to transfer files into my phone.

The Gmail app is from Google, so I imagine that's why it opens to Chrome, just checked, and I did remember correctly. Have been switching to Outlook on iOS lately.

That's not really an explanation though, does any other OS work that way?

I sort of know why it happens in iOS (and it's hard to articulate in a way that people won't take offence to), I just don't know how people can live with it.

From what I've heard, a crack has been discovered but the JB teams are holding off until 9.1.

It is unfortunate that you have to hack your phone to get all that stuff. I seriously would pay extra for like a developers version of iOS that was already unlocked. I know that will never happen, but dare to dream.

I really don't mind, especially now that I can support ad blockers in Safari.

Every once in a while, I have to use Chrome to see a page, but it's really not bad using Safari.

I suppose if you only use Apple or you don't mind your stuff not syncing then it wouldn't be as annoying (although still annoying that you're forced to use one browser).

I like that my stuff syncs across everything regardless of platform.

As already said in many other threads countless times, this isn't true. There are literally 50 3rd party programs that let you xfer files to an iOS device. A few integrate with Explorer so you can do it seamlessly. I personally use iExplorer, awesome program.

I agree 100%, I hate that I have to do it, but the end result is my favorite phone OS. So I put up with what I have to, Cydia's an almost endless source for tweaks and non App Store apps. With Cydia iOS goes from "can't do s**t" to "there isn't s**t you can't do" But IMHO, bone stock Android's every bit as sh*tty, and any Android phone I've owned I had to Root and spent a lot of time tweaking to make it usable to me.

My advice to anyone who doesn't get the appeal of something: you don't have to. Just like what you like, and if you try something new and it isn't for you, no big deal. Other platforms wouldn't exist for long if there weren't interest in something different, especially when most smartphone OS' these days can execute the basics (browsing, media playback, calling, GPS, etc) just fine.

As I said in the OP, those ipads are for the wife & 2 year old toddler. I only use them when they need updating/installing something/books/something wrong..etc

It's quite a different experience when I use the thing everyday for a week and get to experience different aspects of the device.

Funny thing is my wife has a oneplus one 64GB, between snapchat/facebook/whatsapp/recording videos..etc the thing is like 99% full, so it's slowed down a bit; so she complains, but she refuses to give it to me to backup the stuff and free up some space, somehow the device is considered old & slow now and she wants a new iphone 6 plus!

Android slows down if the storage fills? First I've heard that.

How is Android every bit as shitty in that way? You are basically jailbreaking iOS to install a file manager and a new launcher. You can get that in Android easily without root. Rooting is very 2012 unless you are an Xposed addict, much can be done without root.

most people don't care about file managers. and if you do, you should probably buy android.

Sure, but you don't have to root to get a file manager in Android.

I have just given up on my iPad, no more jailbreaks. I just realize if I need to do something like that to pick up the Nexus 7 instead.

I tried Android it was good ,I had a IPhone 5, didn't like it at all. I have a unlocked Lumia 1520 windows 8.1 phone (soon to be windows 10)/ Metro pcs unlimited and I love it. New flagship models with windows 10 come out soon, I'm going to stay with windows phones until they give me a reason not to. I love how everything I do on my tablet, notebook , desktop ,and phone are all integrated together. music, videos, favorites, its cool.

The one downside was less apps but the apps that I really use are in the windows store plus most programs that work on my tablet/desktop work on my phone. They have been doing a good job filling up the store with apps for the past year.

This isn't entirely accurate: The google apps are all configurable to open links in Google Chrome by default, but you can set it back to Safari.

The same is true of a bunch of other apps, which offer you a choice of installed browsers, e.g. Tweetbot.

The main difference in experience is that if you actually keep the phone and use it for a year or so and decide to change to another phone, the iPhone is actually worth something still.. Hell, a "broken" iPhone for parts is often worth more than a "working" Android phone after a year or so..

I get so jealous of that continued value, whether it's deserved or not..

Not true anymore, many Android phone command high resale value in the used market too.

Not true anymore, many Android phone command high resale value in the used market too.

That's really not the case, the manufacturers discount the new phones and it drives down the prices of the used ones.

Swappa prices today:

S6: 32GB $416 ASP
S6 Edge 32GB $458 ASP
Note 5 32GB $545 ASP

Those are current gen flagship phones and the value has dropped significantly.

iPhone 6 plus last gen (not including current gen because of scalping) 16GB $506 ASP

Bam!

I am sure you'd rather have a iPhone 6+ with miserable 16gb for $506, but most tech savvy users will take the Note 5 with 32GB even though it has higher residual value. Bam!!!

So someone bought a Samsung with discounted price and still maintains a relatively high resale price. Win-Win. Let's face it, too many people don't know the difference between iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. That explains why the 5S is so much lower.

Shhh, stop using facts! Android fanboys only respond to opinions stated very loudly and firmly, not dissimilar to toddlers... That insult was to play on their level, in an effort to be more inclusive.

The use of fanboys is considered inflammatory and cannot be used in tech.

Find a different word to use.

Better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness

And just for the heck of it:

S5 16GB $237 ASP
iP6 16GB $460 ASP

An iPhone 6 16GB phone used, sells for more than a current gen S6.

And I'm pretty sure the majority of used iPhone buyers know the difference between the models.
