I actually like the book, movie & mini-series. Each is a little different but if you read the book and watch the other two, everything seems to make more sense. ie, the guy in the dog suit in the movie was never really explained but was in the book.

Overall, I like the kubrick movie the best, book the 2nd and mini-series lastly.

I got this ebook by King called Dr. Sleep. it's apparently the successor to The Shining, I haven't read it yet.

I liked Dr. Sleep - give it a 9/10. Some parts are pretty ridiculous but overall it is an entertaining read.

I'm a big fan of Stephen King. At the speed I read, I feel like I get my money's worth from almost every single one of his novels.

Dr Sleep was an enjoyable read and the Shining was awesome.

I was just cruising by and looking, but man you really hit the nail on the head on that one.

One of my biggest disappointments ever when that came out.

Paul Verhoven understood it just fine. He just didn't want to make a propaganda film with zero plot. Have you read Starship Troopers?

Many times.

Its not a propaganda book.

HE said he didnt read it all. He got through one chapter and didnt like it. He was mistaken in thinking it was a propaganda book but he even talks about his personal bias in other interviews.
When he was a boy in Nazi-occupied Holland, the soldiers left bodies on the side of the road as a warning not to mess with them.
Seeing the dead as he walked to school each day really messed him up. Thats why Paul Verhoven makes violent films, as a way to cope.


Most people dont get the book. It was written by a veteran to make a point that war should be the last resort and the military should have very limited power and strict oversight by the government. They should do as little killing as possible to get the political goal achieved. And you should always respect your opponent, both as a fighting force and a culture (regardless of how simple it appears on the surface).

Yup, I found the first Hobbit movie extremely slow and boring. The second one was better but still not great. It's because he's stretching one book into three movies.
