So I read Fellowship Of The Ring, book one of the trilogy, and I have one word to describe my feelings

Seriously, did I miss something?

Bunch of dudes walking around the forest, couple of sword fights, more walking, go through a cave, meet and get a chub for an Elf queen, float down a river and its over.

Is it worth reading the other two , or am I just not getting it?

The first book is admittedly kinda boring. Tolkien seems to prefer telling historical background than battlefield details.

you should have started with "The Hobbit"

I don't remember how that book was by itself, but i was kept gripped through all of them.

Throw that "yawn" book down and read some Edgar Rice Burroughs. I suggest the "John Carter..Warlord of Mars" series if you want something interesting in the fantasy genre.

Part of the "problem" is that although LOTR was written in the 1950s(?) it was also written in a centuries older style that doesn't necessarily fit well with modern readers.

Nevertheless, I find the books rewarding.

If you do, make sure you know where to get the whole series. I used to get all my books from the local library, and his cliffhangers at the end of his books still haunt me.

I predicted what you were going to say from the title because I had the same exact feelings.

However, the Fellowship is the most boring IMO but I do believe it gets better as it goes on. You get more used to the writing style and all the annoying, complaining hobbits that only want to eat.

As you go on, you get the immense size of the world and details that Tolkien created. More action of course and more drama.

Overall, I would say I enjoyed reading it. It wasn't all that to me, but I would reccomend it as a read.

The others pick up a LOT more...i cannot emphasize this enough. FOTR is a very leisurely journey in comparison to the others.

I liked the first book. Second is better than the first though, with the third book being the best.

Yes it's boring. It's meant to create the imagery of the story and background IMO. TTT is alot better as far as excitement.

I was tempted to do a similar synopsis of the New Testament....

Well, what books you have read that you have enjoyed?

The two other books of the Lord of the Ring involve more characters in more locations doing more things. But there is no guarantee that you will like those either.

yes, that's your opinion. now please go shut up. the LOTR 6 book set is one of the best book sets ever written. they arent boring at all, perhaps you should go back to your harry potter books and leave the real books for real men.

I got a 55 gallon drum of tar anyone have feather pillows?

Did you get tired of how Tolkien talks about every nook and cranny of the countryside? The second book is the bomb though and the third is kinda of slow too.

i think you've watched a little too much MTV, your attention span isn't long enough to appreciate them.

Well, I went ahead and started the second part of THE BOOK and it certainly seems to move faster than the first.

I shall proceed, and reserve any final judgement until I have finished all 3 parts of THE BOOK
