Surprised Honda wasn't offering 0.9% financing. They have recently in the past, anyway. At 0.9% it's damn near like getting a zero interest loan. I bought a 2011 Insight EX at 0.9%.

Wow, you are the second person who can't read apparently.... He even explicitly replied to the person who made the same exact mistake you did already.

no surpise really. Honda has always been one of the worst company's when dealing with used vehicles. they know people are fucking idiots when it comes to Honda's. Far to many are stuck in the 80's mentality that they are far superior to everything else. So many are willing to pay insane prices for a used vehicle.

I remember looking for a used accord (favorite car to buy! have owned 6 of them) a few years ago and the price of a 2 year old one with 30k miles was more EXPENSIVE then a new one. it's insane.

The ford focus is a nice little car. When i was having issues with my Taurus i had one as a loaner vehicle for like 6 months. it got great gas mileage (averaged 34mpg,) and drove great.

And at a good price!

I thought the reason for the high resale was because kids think they're race cars? I see dozens of badly beaten Honda's every day with hundred dollar paint jobs, really bad bondo body work, and generally a fart can.

No, it's more that many, many years ago, there was a noticeable quality difference between foreign and domestic cars.

Now, not so much, but the public is slow to realize it.

Have you looked into Hyundai at all? Their compacts are pretty competetive with the rest of the class. I picked up a certified 2010 Elantra about 8 or 9 months ago for 13K plus TTL. I've been averaging about 32 or 33 mpg so far. Quiet and comfortable. I like it.

That's an absolute ripoff on a fit. We just purchased 3 months ago a brand new 2012 Accord LX for 18900 with 0.9% APR, 20500 out the door. But then again Fits never tend to be on sale.

My 2002 Chrysler, which I owned since new, blew its transmission at 83,000 miles a few years back. Chrysler said, "Out of warranty, not our problem," despite an obvious manufacturing defect. (A tooth in the transmission's hydraulic pump snapped off.) Absolutely inexcusable, and I'll never purchase another Chrysler product because of this incident.

I replaced it with an Ohio-built 2006 Civic 4-door (about four years old when I bought it), and the difference in build quality is like night and day.

The US is definitely doing better, but we have a long way to go. Some of the more expensive domestics that I've rented recently, like the Ford Fusion and Buick Lacrosse, have been fantastic to drive. But they're also much more expensive than what I can afford.

Get a Mazda 2. Was going to get my wife a fit until we saw the price tag. We ended up getting a brand new 2 for the same price as a fit with 82k miles.

That's basically a fiesta isn't it. Same platform and the fiesta gets the slightly more powerful engine

I'm hoping to get out to the Ford dealership tomorrow morning to test drive a Fiesta and possibly a Focus. Ford does have 0.0% APR on the Fiestas right now, not sure about the Focus.

This morning, the Honda dealership called my cell and left a voicemail, but I didn't get home from Ren Faire until after they were closed for the day. Have to see what they're offering.

The fiesta hatchback would have been an extra 4 grand and the local ford dealership would not sell us a manual in hatchback. Only the sedan was available in manual and we didn't want a sedan.

He kept telling us how superior their DSG transmissions were and that we didn't want a manual. Well we drove it and we both thought it felt like crap and the car felt really slow with the auto.

The 2 in manual feels way more powerful. We didn't drive the automatic but both my wife and I agreed we wanted the manual.

Greenman and Waggy point out the danger of buying a used Honda...some are owned/run/maintained carefully by many owners who think their cars are "'golden" and worth as much, and too many are run to ground by "enthusiasts" who think their wheels are racers...

Unlike Shawn, I can't recommend the Mazda2...I had rented one while looking for a replacement for my 99 Altima that was rearend-totaled @ 195k miles, and I couldn't find the proper gear and keep it there...it was an AT and that may be the problem as I have little experience with ATs...having driven AT cars only 3 times for a total of a whopping 30 days over the last 45+ years and have even less skill with them....if it were a manual tranny (as all but 1 of my 14 cars were) then that may be a different car altogether.

As an aside, I did find a suitable replacement...an 05 Camry LE @ 98k miles with a manual tranny and new clutch! A fine car...and highly recommended.

That is odd since the fiesta has a dsg. I've never driven a fiesta only been in it during the fiesta tour they had before it came out in a manual one while a friend drove who was thinking of getting one. Heard the dsg was great strange. Maybe you should they another ford dealer .

MSRP on a Fit? Seriously? I'd have laughed and walked out.

Try internet sales for multiple dealers, stuff like a Fit should be below invoice.

You obviously don't know the market for Fits. You'll never find a Fit for invoice, let alone below invoice. It's MSRP.

My father looked at a Fit and it was MSRP, non-negotiable. But they were totally willing to negotiate on a CRV. He instead traded in his 10 year ola CRV with 150,000 miles for $8k and got a brand new CRV for $23k with a number of options(running boards, roof rack, fog lights, etc).

No reason not to try other honda dealers in the area, and make sure you test drive a fiesta.

The new Elantras aren't bad either, you could check those dealers and see what kind of financing you might find.

Whenever I see dealer addons such as pinstripes, wheel locks and nitrogen filled tires all for the great price of $1000+(in your case 1690) I cringe. They usually will hide them on the right side of the window sheet. It is also a red flag for me towards the dealership that they are willing to be vague in their pricing.

I tell them flat-out, I'm not paying for that shit.

And Honda is known for it's fabulous automatic transmissions... and good luck getting anyone to warranty a 10+ year old transmission whether you think it's s defect or not. Also Ford Fusion is an expensive car?

Keep an eye on your engine...

Seriously, Honda and every other mfg will tell you the same thing when the car is past it's warranty.

Not saying my Honda is invincible by any means. Just that, at the same mileage as the Chrysler was when it blew up, everything is still working perfectly on it. Total repairs, so far, have been only wear items: one set of brake pads and a few oil changes.

The Chrysler, aside from the transmission eating itself, had its air conditioner fail, the airbag red warning light came on every time I turned the wheel, one of the rear brakes seized up and took the rotor with it, and plenty more. As I said, the build quality was substantially worse with the Chrysler.

My history with Ford is pretty good. I had a couple of electrical issues out of warranty, totaling about $1000. A few months later, I got a letter from Ford stating that the problems had been recalled, and they enclosed a check for what I had paid for the repair. I was very impressed with how they handled it, and if they'd had a small car I liked, I'd have purchased another Ford in a heartbeat. (I didn't like the Focus, and as I said, the Fusion was several thousand out of my price range.)

This class of vehicle is so competitive now. I'd never settle on one without trying all the alternatives (Ford Focus, Chevy Sonic, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris, etc...).

Rio and Yaris are awful to drive. Abysmal.

Is the OP looking for compact or subcompact hatch? Because from his initial posting he was looking at a Fit which is in the same realm as a Mazda 3, Focus, Golf, Elantra 5 door and not the Mazda 2, Fiesta, Rio, Accent, Sonic.
