So I tried to remove my GeminII heatsink...

... but it was stuck on the CPU pretty good. I gave it one last yank and the sucker was free.. with my CPU still stuck on the heatsink! The motherboard's CPU release latch was still in the locked position, and now I'm kind of scared.

Unfortunately, I don't have the motherboard anymore to test the CPU.. I'm just curious if this happened to one of you guys, and if you were able to use the CPU again without a hitch.


edit: pins seem fine and aligned correctly.

It's happened to quite a few people. As long as the pins are okay, you should be fine. Did you run the PC to get the CPU nice and hot before trying to remove it?

happenes to me quit a few times when i had my old xp-90 and a S478 P4. ripped that baby right outta the socket a couple times

only for about a minute.. the mobo is damaged.

happened to me twice and in one case the cpu pins got bent - had to straighten them out and all is well again.

Happened to me pulling my Socket 478 P4 out of my old Dell, but the CPU was fine. No idea about the Dell motherboard, since I don't need it anymore.
