i've been researching this for a while now,... and i've learned this.

1. it's pretty complicated to get a liquor license.
2. besides that, it's basically securing a distributor, and having capital.
3. most liquor stores are profitable (68 percent according to IRS)

i've found a property i can afford, in a high volume area, there is 1 other liquor store in the immediate area, they are new as well.....

does anyone have any info on doing this that i should know? anyone a successful liquor store owner?

i'm pretty serious about doing this, i have the capitol, labor would be next to nothing for my situation, i dont have the license, but i could get one i think.. i just need insider info.

Sell malt liquor and menthol cigarettes.

oh of course, i'd have an entire fridge dedicated to malt liquors, the cheapest of the kind..

i was thinking not just cigarettes, but a full array of cheapish glassware (the kind for burning tobacco and incense)(i'm not sure how the laws work for this in a liquor establishment work for this however)

i'd like to have a place where you could buy actually good liquor too, from cheap to top shelf, i'm in a wealthy area, so i'd like to offer mid to top shelf stuff for a price that buying online doesn't save much.

68 percent of liquor stores being profitable is not nearly the same thing as 68 percent of liquor store startups being profitable. See what the failure rate for a liquor startup is, then be sure you can afford to lose all the money you will be investing.

True.

Liquor stores are like restaurants, it's location location location. Before going forward I'd park outside the other store every day for a week or two. See how much business they're doing and where it's coming from. If you can move closer to the core customers than they are you'll probably steal a lot of their business. But if you're on the far side of their traffic you'll get hosed because most will not drive past them to get to you. You're not going to create new drinkers, you're going to have to share what's already there. If there's not enough to go around you have to be able to steal enough of their business to drive them under before you go broke. And if you don't think you can win that battle, don't do it. It's possible, even probable, that there's only one liquor store in the immediate area because there's only enough sales volume in the immediate area to support one store.

it's basically, a gated golf course/country club.... pop. ~4000

alot of hassle with the POA to get the first liquor store opened, (local vote)...... it's been open for about 2 years, and they do MAD business....

i just wanna steal some of there business, and cater to a higher end (connoisseur market).......but do it smaller/cozier..

and hoping to my advantage, the people who own the existing liquor store, aren't locals..
