Play for days only to have your character killed. Very fun.

And only open bnet is hacked. Closed bnet is ok. (THough some ahcked items make their way from NL to L).

Large amounts of thanks to Zenoth, only problem is now on my sorc I'm at the awkward level where I'm too high to join a "new characters" game and too low to do alot of damage by myself, so thanks alot!!

I'm with you Mega...I appreciate the "skill" it takes to make a Hardcore character but I promise I'd be one of the guys who would die after getting a good item or hitting a decent level. I'll stick with SC.

not to mention the swarms of hc players that do nothing but join games looking to lure some poor fool into a quick tppk or some other trap to kill them.

I was looking through some "build guides" and came upon this necro guide...is this even possible?? That seems unrealistically high...maybe I'm crazy though.

OK, so I've been rambling on about the damage that a skeleton can do, right? Well, here's the rundown of just how much damage you can expect from your skeletons.

FIRST, we'll show what kind of damage they'll do when you and your mercenary are both naked.

Level 20 skeleton and mastery= 124-127 damage
Level 17 might (just for the sake of a number)= +200%
So triple your damage to 372-381
Now, add on amplify damage to get your final damage of 744-762

Meh, with 8 skeletons, that's pretty lame, am I right? So, let's up the volume! Using the optimum equipment I suggested, you'll have +14 to all skills. Assuming you have perfect equipment, you'll also be using a hellfire torch (+3 necro skills), an annihilus (+1 to all skills), and 8 +1 to summoning grand charms.

Which means that with marrowalks, you'll have level 46 raise skeleton and level 48 skeleton mastery.

Raw damage per skeleton (and you have 17)- 830-834.
Using a mercenary with level 20 might- 230%
Perfect pride weapon gives level 20 concentration- 345%
Total bonus? 575%, which means you get another 4700 damage.
Total damage? 5500. Add on amplify damage, and that's 10,000 PER SKELETON, and you have 17!

If you plugged fanatacism in as well, you'd have 670% extra damage, which means you get an additional 2,000 damage per skeleton. >_> at 10,000 damage per skeleton, added with corpse explosion, do you see why it's beating a dead horse? I mean, come on! 170,000 damage per swing is QUITE enough, I think.

Is his math off or something? Not seeing where he's coming up with 170k...

I got back into D2 last year for a while (played singleplayer) and made a fishymancer (the generic skelly summoner build mentioned in the post) and its very effective even without good equip. I don't even have a Pride weap which is a significant chunk of damage, but I can still solo hell baal. Give it a try, it's a fun build that scales well from start to end game

I might have to give it a whirl eventually. Sounds like fun, I've just always been terrible with nec's.

What did you use to get the first kill to make a skele??

Your merc gets the initial kills.

While minion masters are fun to solo with, they aren't that great in parties and some players will demand that you unsummon everything because they feel it lags them, which I've never experienced, but who knows.

I actually believe a merc with infinity will increase your dps over pride in pvm at least since the convicton will allow your minions to hit a lot more. The skeles laid out above have about 4600 AR, which isn't too good for hell. The necromancer pet calculator actually actually predict a significantly lower damage than your calculations, but I can't find any info as to why it doesn't apply the full ed% bonus from auras. I haven't made a summoner in a while. The convict is also a big bonus to any casters in the party.

Made a nec last night and started "piddling." Already past the sorc I made the other day and he's easier to use simply because my sorc has all crappy spells ATM (and I don't want to "waste" points on her). Nec is easy though.

Question for those who have made this build. Calculating my skill points I'll have like 45+ points left over after maxing skele/mastery/resist (I've heard you only want 5 points in summon resists) + a few curses and prereq's. What did you spend your points on? I'm considering bone spear, there's always golems though...

Someone dumped a "gravespine" wand in town somewhere, so I've got a low level +2 wand, that'll help.

Previously with the marrowwalk bug, you'd max out bone spirit and the other synergy that isn't on marrowwalk. Now that it's gone, it's still an okay plan, since BS is good to get the initial kill or help with phys immunes, but it's not amazing. Maxing out a golem can be useful, but I didn't find them too effective

Hrm, the guide I checked seemed to pick Bone Spear above Bone Spirit...any reason why other than the penetration?

Necros are fun to play solo or in parties only in Normal mode

once you reach Hell mode, they are totally useless, specially the FireGolem, ironically in Hell Mode the good old Clay golem works better than the other ones

or you can max Blood Golem, or Iron Golem, both are decent, but useless when fighting bosses.

if you are going Necro, make sure to make it tough with lots of HP and STR, pretty much build it like a Pali, don't depend so much on your minions, they are only good for regular fight, but totally sucks on bosses

The one I'm trying (theoretically) is good for everything (including bosses). Guess we'll see. They suggest just enough STR to use gear, EVERYTHING else in vit.

I guess if you pump the minions up enough they should get the job done, the problem is getting them pumped up (need Hanz and Franz).

i'll definitely master the Golems, but it's not worth mastering the skeletons

instead master the high level casting skills instead.

In Hardcore mode, it's nothing but you, Hell Mode is still okay to use minion

in Hardcore mode, the mobs and bosses will rape your Golem and Skeletons in 1 swipe, that's what i learned the hard way waaaaaaaaay back then when i used to play the ladder a lot

i practically maxed all the skeletons, golems, and summons, to then have damn Bliizzard change the way how everything works, and made it all screwed up.

even at maxed, they can't live long enough to stand the hell minions mobs, and bosses in hard core mode, in hell mode it required a lot of recasting.

What version are you referring to allgamer? summoners work perfectly fine in hell mode. I was able to do all the way up to act five with /players 8. I scaled it back for a5 so it wouldn't take so long to kill stuff. Oh yeah kabob, you might want to max out CE as it helps speed things up. If you have enough + skills it's unnecessary though

From all I've heard I'm with Chrono on this one, seems that Summoners were really beefed up in 1.10/1.11.

Ugh...I got a few items from Zenoth the other day for my sorc that I was going to transfer to the necro project. So I made a game and did a few quests, quit, switched to the sorc, rejoined, dropped the items, quit...and got the "battle net cannot be reached" error. So yeah, lost the items...stupid battle.net.

haven't been on much at all recently... was playin Assassin's Creed and makin my movie.
