As my sig says, I'm a very devout Christian. I did notice that in College I haven't really gone to church here or anything. Last semester, though a member of InterVaristy Christian Fellowship I only went to Bible Study and 180 (Large Group) sporadically.

Last semester, normally I would go out with some friends to a party. But seeing as I don't drink, it is only fun as long as the people are sober enough to talk, after that it kinda gets bored.

This semester, I started going regularly to 180 (Large Group) and I started going to Bible Study on a regular basis. I had been in High School Youth Group last year, so I figured this would be a good way to get involved again while at College instead of waiting until I got home.

After attending my first 180 tonight I have to say it was pretty cool. My friends were all there, and it was basically like a contemporary worship service without communion. It ended at 8:30 but we all stood around and talked with each other afterwards.

I dunno, I just wanted to share what a great learning experience college is and how much I hope I am maturing. People stereotype us College Kids a lot, and it is a relief to see that those stereotypes are wrong at least in that setting.

So, I don't see a question in your post. What are you looking for with this thread?

It can be plenty fun to make fun of drunk people when you're sober.

That's great man, what school are you at? I'm involved in IVCF at Colorado School of Mines, actually just got back from a leaders meeting about an hour ago. It's always good to hear about other schools where IVCF is doing well.

Oh of course it is a good laugh, but it is only so fun so long.

I wasn't asking any questions or anything, I was simply reflecting on an experience I had.

Cool!! Im at Virginia Tech. Despite the fact that IV doesn't discriminate based on denomination (Non-Denominational if you will) they managed to do an amazing job in satisfying the individual beliefs of each denomination

Outside of that, I guess this thread had at least a tiny motive to prove that not all college students go to college and get wasted and completely lose touch with any morals they once had.

I gave it a shot, did sound for one group for two years, but never really got truly involved. Not in touch with anyone from the group now.

I don't need to. You would be surprised how much respect people have for not drinking. I don't care, I'll come right out and say it at a party. Most of the time people will say "I would never be able to do it, I have a lot of respect for you". Even if they didn't, why should I care, my friends all drink (most of them) and they are fine. They ask me to go regardless of whether I drink or not just to hang out. It's fine with me

Well you have to choose right. I'm sure there are some out there that, while still good as they are helping you grow in faith, probably are not the best in....other aspects.

I just recently transfered from a state school to a private Lutheran school and couldn't be happier. I'm glad your enjoying interVarsity. Its a great group @ many colleges around the nation.

God sent Jesus so we can live life fully. Not so we can bury our heads in the Bible and study the same 400 pages eleventy billion times.

I guess not drinking alcohol can be a good thing for after (and during) college. Because of alcohol I almost died, almost got fired, and certainly have thousands of dollars less because if it.

I don't wish to turn this into a religious debate because that will get the thread locked; however, it was my understanding (And from a strictly Christian POV) that Jesus was sent into the world to save us. I don't remember it ever telling us he was here so we could live life fully.

And who said I was burying my head in the Bible because of Jesus. I find it interesting and hope to grow in my faith.

I never said I wouldn't have an occasional beer after I turn 21 (Football Games come to mind) but I will never be a big drinker....not that I can't handle it, I'm just not that into it. I have better things I could be doing with my time IMO.

navigators are solid. i'm not sure about the doctrine at IV, but sometimes when you try to satisfy everyone's beliefs/convictions, you end up with no convictions. just something to keep in mind. i say that in total ignorance, though. my roommate went to IV for his last 2 years and loved it.

i had another campus fellowship that i hooked up with. the most important thing in college is to find good accountability since there are a lot of things college kids go through during those 4 or so years. cheers!

I was a devout Christian and I thought campus Christian groups were lame.

The only real campus fellowship was at bars/parties/tailgating.

I am now agnostic / non practicing.

I went to Crusade big group meetings a few times throughout college.. I was never a big fan. The people in my college's group were just a little too weird. Not religious weird, just weird people in general.

Why do you automatically assume that I don't have fun. As I said, I go to parties I just don't drink. I still have fun. I don't need to be stumbling over my own ass to have "fun".

Instead of insulting me and saying that because I don't drink I don't have fun, why don't you say something constructive?

One of my roommates in college had a lot of trouble adjusting socially and academically, and he ended up finding a lot of comfort in religion. He started praying a lot and spending a lot of time with his campus religious group. Being an atheist, I didn't really think it was a good idea at the time, but I eventually changed my mind. It helped him deal with stress and the group meetings gave him a huge social outlet. I still don't believe that a god did anything to help him, but religion certainly helped him get his act together.

They ask you to go out because they want a DD if the need arises.
