Wow, you are wrong again. Macs do get fewer viruses, because they are not tailored for Mac software. As MANY people have stated, why would virus writers go after such a small segment of the computer world when most of the world is running Windows?

You are a moron.
OP, I need you to go back to your parents and tell them you are not the smart kid they thought they had. It's a cold hard fact, but I think they are going to have to be confronted with the news sooner or later. It's better for you to be upfront with them now instead of finding out from others later. It's just better this way.

Go on, you know what you've got to do...

Oh man, that guy is so moded. Based on that worker, I'll never buy anything made by Apple again.

That and the majority of the viruses written for the Mac OS are currently nothing more than proof of conecpt and don't even exist in the wild.

Us Mac users may have our zealots, but at least we don't have this guy.

Sigh...i was once this naive and stupid, but that was back in the late 80's when the cool thing was to diss Macs because you had an Amiga, and PC's were something your dad used at work. It's funny how things never change, just the names.

Flame Fest!

Everyone is vulnerable to viruses, especially if there's someone out there who's hellbent on whacking you.

Seriously, do you even listen to what you are saying?
It's like your trying to communicate some concept or idea to us, I just know it.

Mac/mac = shorthand for Macintosh computers.

IBM/Motorola simply didn't or wouldn't make a product comparable to Intel's lineup. Back in the day, Macs were actually faster, but Intel and AMD started far outstripping them. So Apple made the switch. Why Intel and not AMD? Well, right now Intel has the better product. If Apple had switched a couple years ago, maybe they would have gone AMD.

The opposite. Macs are easier to use, and more intuitive. I use a PC because I am an experienced user, and I like the ability to tweak my OS, mess with my hardware, and run all the latest games. But for your average person, Macs work right out of the box, without a bunch of customization.

PCs are certainly cheaper, though.

No, and no. Macs do get fewer viruses, because there are fewer viruses in the wild for Macs. And they don't have a "hidden program" to get rid of them, any more than our government has a "hidden program" to make contact with aliens at Area 51.

Mcafee is definitely pathetic. I remember when they bought Mcafee for my workplace and all the techs were saying, "Why?" It was an administrative decision made by people who knew nothing about computers.

Who the hell on this board is so stupid that they ask retail employees who don't earn commission advice on computer hardware? You should be at least as knowledgeable as the the assistant manager.

No commission = no in-depth knowledge.

I'm not disputing the fact that the OP is young, but basically you've just said that the fact that human beings aren't 30 years old from birth is whats wrong with America.

OH REALLY?! I work at Staples (nary a commission as the store tech, ) and would you care to quiz me to my no in-depth knowledge of computers? Your broad generalizations and stereotypes display an ignorance nearly as ignominous as the OP.

Yeah baby big words = big ep*nis brain and self-grandizing ego boosting bombast that smacks of a diatribe worthy of Hamlet at his most self absorbed.

I can talk about such huge complex  constructs such as inclusive versus exclusive L2 cache and single versus dual versus quad core for the average consumer! I can help a customer determine their current verus future needs when it comes to a computer and even warn them their 300 watt PSU with 20 amps on the 12v rail won't cut it if they decide to drop a G80 bomb into the PCI-ex 16x slot down the road to supplant their 6150 Nvidia integrated graphics. Hell, I can even break down the roughly 3-5% boost in performance one gets going from single to dual channel on the AMD 939 chips. Or the additional 2-5% boost going to 940 DDR2 on the AMD chips. I can even help explain to the average Jane/Joe why the the lower frequency clocked AMD and Intel chips are faster than the previous Prescotts. Imagine that.

Oh wait, I have no in-depth knowledge. My bad.

OP: The reason you are getting toasted is because you are demonstrating a closed mind that is unwilling to separate the personal attacks from the information being presented. Instead of getting defensive and using posturing and fingers in the ears try and examine what the posters are attempting to convey to you. If you think Apple puts "secret programs" in their OS's to get rid of viruses (why in the name of God and Jobs would they not market it  ) then you really should reexamine your belief about your level of knowledge when it comes to computers.

 I clearly was referring to retail sales employees. Of course a "store tech" will know a lot about computers. That kid in the blue shirt at best buy, however, is clueless.

Your rant is weak, man.

I am on the sales floor all day but also fix computers when they come in. Your rant and rank insulting generalizations were weak and I had fun posting a satirical post (including pawning myself  ).

Edit: And yes I make the same lowly salary as the rest of the peons but I get a fancy title.

That's not what I said.
If you'll read my post, you'll see that I claim that the refusal to admit to being wrong, even when the evidence is overwhelming, is what's wrong with America

Just look at Iraq...

Screw you and your generalizations. I work at Best Buy Home Theatre as a regular blue-shirt guy, and I know a whole lot about TV's, HDTV, computers, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Sure, a lot of BB guys may not know a lot, but that isnt all of us.

I'm pretty sure if you buy an 8 socket Opteron board (which costs well more than $4000 alone) and put 8 of them in configuration along with a minimum of 8 sticks of memory (dual channel per dual cluster), it will *probably* beat a DC Core2 Woodcrest at 3.0Ghz. But then again, thats approximately $4000 + $600*8 + 8*$100ish = $10K.

But nevermind that, lets assume you're not a retarded IT buyer. You buy a 4 socket barebones Opteron system and put in Dual Core 8xx series Opterons. You can get a barebones 4S system for around ~$2K and each Dual Core 8xx will cost around the $1200 mark. Thats $2K + 4*1.2K + 4*200ish = $7K.

In which I would respond in 2 months by putting in 2x 2.4Ghz Quad-Core (8 cores) Cloverton Xeons for $1000 a piece and smack that system to the ground with the MacPro. So in November, I have a $5700 MacPro capable of beating your $10K 8-way (8 core) Opteron for 1/2 the price or edging out a 4-way Dual Core (8 cores as well) for 3/4 the price.

---

But whatever you have consistently proven you know squat about computers. Your experience in the Enterprise market consists of:

1) Looking at pictures of High End Cisco Routers and Fibre Switches.
2) Touching a low-end Cisco router or Fibre Switch at Fry's and pretending to configure it on one of the G3/G4/G5's on display, which probably isn't even connected to it.
3) Installing Fedora Core4 and Windows 2003 Server (most likely pirated) and playing around with the GUI, doing absolutely nothing meaningful except oooh'ing and aaaah'ing at some settings, and then saying you master the OS.
4) Pretending to know Enteprise Level servers and their components by linking random Opteron 8xx parts (which ironically are worse choices than your initial Opteron DC you picked out).

If you game, mac sux.

If you are dumb with teh comptorz, macs rule.

If you want something which has a small learning curve, go for a mac.

If you think, I am uber leet and better than a mac, don't get one and stfu.

If you want to multitask and run a bazillion things at once, get a mac. The OS actually knows how to handle memory effectively.

Aesthetics, mac.

Utility, PC.

gg

this comes from a PC/unix/linux/mac user.

commence crying.
