The oil isn't 'volatile' in a chemical sense. The fats are simply unsaturated hydrocarbon chains, which makes them very liable to oxidation, which helps make it rancid.
That is volatile compared with other nutritional supplements. Also, uv light can break down fish oil as well as oxygen. Meaning it needs to be stored in a cool, dry, and dark place to maintain shelf life. I wasn't saying volatile as in it can explode or something. I meant that is was easier to make it go bad earlier than its "shelf life" might indicate and could even be bad from the moment you buy it much more readily than many other products.
